YEEEESSS me
Please help
Need to send prints to my client…
Before searching in posts to I have been struggling to find an issue for 4 hours already and found none
Same problem when using vector output
lines showing through the building
But worse using raster output, a real nightmare
No lines showing through the building
BUT line width completely erratic
I found out (at least) that playing with DPI settings make some changes
DPI default settings is 300
set to higher it will enlarge all line width.
set to lower (150) line width is “almost” OK
please see compared outputs in acrobat (window titles 100dpi / 150dpi / 300dpi)
All my layer line width are set to “Default” or “Hairline”
All line width object properties are set “By Layer”
Any change to line width in layers panel do not affect the PDF
Some blocks are not native Rhino built geometry (Sketchup) but most are “cleaned up”
I’m using a custom Display Mode
I’ll try a default one to check…
Hello Karim,
resorting to Raster won’t help you escape the dream. the only good practice for me is to be able to generate PDFs with good quality vectors, no jagged edges, no disconnected lines all to the maximum possible accuracy and quality, and of course for vector is the file size.
Thus, I’m not willing to wake up from this nightmare until things get solved.
Thanks
I hope I (we) will
haven’t tried hard yesterday to find out if I could or not have vector output, just managed to send my (raster) prints to my client…
I will let you know if I do
Both print dialogues (regular and macro) give the same results with lines showing through the building as you mentioned.
I should mention I’ve tested 8.0, 8.1, and 8.2 release candidates to no avail.
Oddly if I Toggle “Preview Selected Only” in Grasshopper I get even more lines showing through, despite nothing being selected and no nodes actively set to preview. So nothing should be showing but simply toggling that has wildly different results.
@Karim_tabbara what about your custom display mode specifically was causing the issue?
I’m running default Technical Display mode with Hidden Lines turned off and still having the issues.
I’ve tried some of the standard Display modes
No matter what Display modes (Standard or Custom) the only one not showing “see through lines” is the Shaded (and my custom one based on this display)
Vector output is OK
But I want no shadows nor colors nor fillings.
That means I would have to set all layers to black and use Layer state, not being sure if any geometry overrides print color …
I came up with a new Display Mode I called
“Monochrome Pure”
Black & White (no add)
No isocurves, tangent anything, no Subd except boundaries, No clipping planes, No shades, no gloss, no reflection, no nothing, flat shading, custom material for all objects 100% White
Took some time to achieve
I use section styles for layers to be hatched or whatever
No playing with line width (or very little)
Does work fine with raster output
I handle small projects, the ones I used to process with SU, with raster outputs to…
Does NOT with vector output
I’ll wait for it to be fixed, but let me know please
Good luck
@Karim_tabbara are you running Rhino 8.2 RC? If not, could you please give that a try. I also will need a simple 3dm file that shows the problem you are seeing. The less geometry the better.
Thanks,
-Steve
Depending on what view gets printed in Raster, either the line thickness is completely wrong/large or invisible and nothing prints at all.
Thanks for looking into all this!
It appears that the issue of the invisible lines stems from “Hairline” line width setting. Even at 300 DPI, this results in an invisible line in Raster mode in my testing:

Layer Linetype Setting (H = Hairline, D = Default):
I’m using Version 8 SR2 (8.2.23325.14001, 2023-11-21)

(I purchased V7, waiting for Varq 3 to update V8)
I did NOT manage to reproduce the see through problem while printing vectors with my file.
If I do I’ll send right away
I’m having issues with this raster printing to PDF too. The more I increase my print resolution, the thicker the edges and silhouettes become on the output. I’m on the latest service update of 8 and I’m trying to print from a layout. (No issues for printing from the model space.)
All print with edges and silhouettes scaling in thickness with print resolution despite altering raster based print settings. The one I’m mainly after is Monochrome as it’s absolutely perfect for the sort of drawings which I’m producing.
