Problem with Picture frames

this worked in Rhino 5… check it out!!!

Also, programmatically how will you set it to Raster when you use the new FilePdf in Rhino 6 ???

Hello - did you try other pdf drivers? I got pictures from the Microsoft, and other, pdf driver, and none from the Rhino pdf, regardless of blocks or not…

-Pascal

Rhino 5 - SampleBlockPrintBug_R5.3dm (376.0 KB)

Rhino 6 - SampleBlockPrintBug_R6.3dm (365.5 KB)

Rhino 5 displays
Rhino 6 does not.

As Holo points out, if the Output Type is changed to Raster, then the picture frames show up for me in Rhino 6 as well, but that is when the Sample model is still a block instance. If I explode the block, I notice that the picture frames still show up even on Vector Output.

I appreciate the fact that other people has problems with other functions with picture frames but we seem to have departed from my OP. Can someone please follow up with post 16 dated March 30th ?

Sorry!!

starting a new topic Picture frame in Block instance is not visible in FilePDF

@pascal my problem with picture frames and vray3 is still unresolved (see above post 16). Attached is a simple example again of a picture frame (Rhino material) and the rendered output. The same scene render fine in vray 2. I’m on Rhino 5 btw.
Please this is urgent and it’s holding me back on 3 projects. I posted the problem also in Chaosgroup forum.

I see the same problem in Rhino without Vray.
And first time I swithced to Raytraced mode it crashed Rhino. @nathanletwory
Second time it shows it as black:

Same with OpenGL Rendered mode. @jeff

But upon making a custom mesh and applying the picture in a new “Picture” material then it works just fine in both Rendered and Raytraced:
image

So that might be your workaround for now.

But if I put it on a nurbs plane then this odd rectangular shadow appears:
image

This might work in V-ray too, so I hope that helps you as a workaround until it is fixed.

And then I unhided the picture plane and now that works too…
but now the shadows are gone…
(I resat the render environment and that’s when the shadows appeared, so something is odd here)

1= picture plane (unmodified) 2= nurbs 3= mesh

Edit:
And then on going back to Rhino they were all blank in all modes… and now they are back again.
Anyway, I would try using a mesh with a new material for now… Good luck.

Edit2:
Pictureframe has bad AA on the Alpha, giving the man a white outline, not apparent on the example due to the white background. Here shown next to the mesh:

here is a file with just a mesh:
PicFrame-workaround mesh.3dm (319.8 KB)

Thanks Holo. I also have found a few workaround solutions but the beauty of the picture frames is to choose an image, draw the plane and you are done (or at least you were done, but not now …)
I have a scene with dozens of 2d people and it’s a pain to have to do the workaround on each of them.
Also you seem to work on Rhino 6, I’m still in 5

Did you send the crashreport?

no, it wasn’t an option :expressionless:

Not even a RhinoCrashDump.dmp on your desktop?

Oh, yeah, it’s 47MB… that was big for three planes…
I’ll send it in personal message.

Holo, even converting the plane to a mesh still renders as white in vray3

You’re not going to see or get any kind of fix for V5… I do not believe that there will anymore service releases for the V5 product.

@Holo I’m not seeing any kind of issue whatsoever here using any of the files I’ve found in this thread.

If you have a repeatable case that you can consistently Start Rhino, Load a file, and see the problem…and do that over and over again…then please post the file. If it is an intermittent thing, then please provide whatever steps you can so that I can reproduce the problem… As it is, loading the file here, I see the clipped picture frame… I then switch to Rendered mode, and I still see the clipped the picture frame… I don’t see any shadows, but that’s because the Ground Plane has been turned off… If I turn the Ground Plane ON, then I see shadows just fine… I switch to Raytraced mode, it works fine too… So, as of right now, I don’t see the problem here at all.

Thanks,
-Jeff

Jeff, it’s not a Rhino 5 problem, it’s a vray problem. Rhino 5 works fine with Rhino render engine and with vray 2. It is again a vray 3 problem. Just posting here because the thread started like that.
Not sure what’s the deal in Rhino 6 but Holo seems to have problems even with Rhino renderer (are you @Holo)?

The file I posted is a fresh scene and I’m trying to render in vray 3 and Rhino 5 and it’s consistently a problem as I explained.
