Xnurbs plugin error

Is there anyone at Rhino that specializes in plugin errors? I have been trying to solve this

problem with Xnurbs for 3 weeks now.

Explanation: I had Xnurbs working perfectly for 4 months since Dec 2024

Recently installed an update for Xnurbs version 7.1 and a recent Rhino update.

Problem: Xnurbs stopped working. Everytime I open Xnurbs now this error message pops up.

“Done installing plugins, press close to continue”. “Error loading - XnurbsRhino7.rhp”

I have gone into the %appdata% files and removed the Xnurbs data that should normally

remove this error message.

I have completely removed all Xnurbs and previous Rhino loader/installers. I have logged out

and reloaded Rhino multiple times.

Having a hard time getting Rhino to load a completely fresh download. It just keeps loading

the same file from the cloud zoo. I have read and tried this multiple times now. With no luck.

I have gone into the bios settings and removed the virtual machine settings.

I have gone into the system and security files and turned off my Firewalls and antivirus

programs. I have made sure that all specific settings in the “Windows features” are turned off.

Like “Hyper V” and “Virtual machine platform”

Contacted Xnurbs and had a 59 page email conversation that was not much fun.

Xnurbs has to be the Rudest most arrogant company I have ever dealt with.

They have no interest in reading any of my explanations. Guess the translators don’t

work very well.

Can’t believe that as a Rhino user and a paid xnurbs license holder that anyone should have

this much of a dilema getting a 395 dollar addon working.

“Needed solution” I need to get rid of this message that must either be deep in the registry or

some how locked into the Rhino zoo cloud.

I can start Rhino in safe mode and this error goes away. Also If I open Rhino 6 the error does

not pop up.

When you download the Xnurbs plugin it opens with the standard “.rhp” and this download

link is obviously broken. Because it does not work. It just leaves an error message on your

start up screen untill you go into the %appdata% files and remove it. So then you have to

Download the addon and change it to a zip file. Then unzip it and make sure you load the

correct “Rui” folder. But then you get the message it can’t load into Rhino plugins folders.

So there you are…Right back where you started from.

Just to think. All that would be needed to fix this terrible license and activation process.

Would be a simple dongle. Like I use for my DolphinCAM program.

I normally can figure out these things. But this problem has taken it to a whole new level

of frustration. Apologize for writing a book. But I have no idea how to explain all this in just a

few words.

Goal: To access the Xnurbs program on the laptop that was running Xnurbs perfectly.

And deactivate my license on that computer. So that I can go and activate the license on my

new computer. Through verification from Xnurbs support. My licence is activated and running.

But I can’t acess it. I had read that Xnurbs issued a new licence number to another Rhino

user in the past to fix this. “I have completely given up talking to Xnurbs support”

Tired of being talked down to by them. Like I can’t even tie my own shoes.

Super frustrated guy here that really did like that Xnurbs addon.

Any ideas or tips would be greatly appreciated.

The dev responsible for xnurbs frequents this forum, He will need to be the one to help you with this as we do not directly support 3rd party plugins.

Do you realize Kyle. That just the other day. You yourself told me to make a post on this forum.
So I did. I wasn’t expecting much. Oh well.

I’m sorry, I talk lots and lots of people a day.. and they do blend together a bit in my head.

This is the right place for your question- hoping the xnurbs dev jumps in here.

And when I searched this morning. “Does Rhino support plugins” It said very much so. It also recommends and encourages users to use plugins. Guess they forgot to add that that does not apply to third part plugins.

We certainly support the use of plugins, but we do not provide specific support for each plugin ourselves.

Our Plugins providers are all responsible for their own tech support.

It’s identical to having an app on your phone… you go to the app developer for help, not the maker of your phone.

Well in my opinion. The problem is coming from both parties. There is compatibility issues coming from Rhino. Rhino zoo cloud. And Xnurbs. And all the license and activation snags that Xnurbs is using. I would be very surprised if any other third party plugins use such a complicated activation and licensing method as Xnurbs is using. And this nothing new. I have read hours and hours of Rhino forums. People were having this same problem back in 2020.
I have no confidence in anything coming from Xnurbs support. Maybe once I start learning about the registry files I will be able to fix this problem.

I guess if anything comes out of this. " Is just a simple WARNING to other users interested in Xnurbs" “If you have problems”…“You are on your own” . Read the manual and figure it out.

Well guess what. I figured out what was wrong. Had to really put my thinking cap on to get over

this hurdle. I had been studying the Registry files the other day, and found the Xnurbs files

in the subkeys folders. So I watched a few youtube videos today on the Registry.

And once I felt confident I was not going to mess anything up, I made a few backups. Then

deleted those files. Instantly I got past this error message that was locked to the Rhino start up

page. Then for some reason changing the Xnurbs file to a zip format was not working. My zip

file loader that works all the time could not ever even see this zip file.

So I went to my other computer and got the needed files. Saved them to a usb drive.

Opened them on the computer that was locked to my Xnurbs license number.

I had done every step of activating the Xnurbs addon at least 100 times now. So

I just started stepping through the steps. And finally I was able to deactivate the xnurbs license.

And then I went over to my brand new computer and was able to get it activated and running.

This was a very involved process to figure out. I am an electronics technician not a programmer

or an I.T. guy. Never once did anyone really help me figure this out. I did get some pathetic

suggestions from Xnurbs. Nothing that I hadn’t read in the manual 100 times over.

So my overall suggestion. Just buy Plasticity Studio version. Then you will never have to deal

with all this garbage.
