Worksession geometry that appears in layouts and details

Hi all,

I am getting the hang of using ws. It is a nice way to reduce file size.
But I create a bunch of layouts and details in my boat kit work (formatted for 11x17 plans) and I noticed a problem, for me.
In the layouts of the active file, if I turn on/off the geometry in the attached files which I wish to appear or not appear in the various details, then I can use the reference geometry in the layouts and show only what I want in the details, nice thing.

But when the attached file is updated in ws mgr, or the next day I reopen the worksession, all those layers in the attached file that I have turned on/off IN THE LAYOUTS is back on again (because worksession automatically updates the atached files?) and I have to manually go back through and play the layer game again for all my layouts. I may have 10-12 layouts each with 1-3 details so that is a lot of work.

Is this the way it is in V6? Or is there something I can do now to prevent the automatic updating?

It rebuilds the layers on opening i believe. I think i’ve solved this by using the layer state manager.

I will investigate this, thanks

Unfortunately that method will not work…it saves only layers that are on/off in active file.

hmmm if I attach a file that has needs items turned off, turn those layers off and create a Layer State. Detach file, reattach brings in the layers turned on, reinstate the Layer State. Amiright?

No it won’t work. I called tech support and Ben I think it was gave a great tip. If the geometry is inserted as a block instance linked to original file and the layer style as “active” then the geometry can be turned on/off in the way I was wanting to in all the details and layouts and layer state manager will then save my setting for when I need to print.

The only drag here is that the layers from the inserted model are sprinkled through out the layers of the active model, where as the referenced layers in a block instance that is referenced or with WS show as a separate list and are grayed out. But they can’t be saved in layer state manager. Thanks for the help Rickson…layer state mg will be an asset
