Would it be possible to imagine that clicking on the viewport / pressing che ESC key after having clicked on the viewport cleans up the command line?
I think this is the result of Mac having a “Command search bar” and not a real command line as in Windows Rhino. Esc “cleans it up” in MacRhino - if one is still in the search field. However once one clicks in a viewport, the “last used” search term stays in the search bar. Whether it should stay or not I guess is a subject for discussion…
In Windows Rhino this is moot, as there is no command search, only the command line.
Wasn’t I clear?

So, let’s discuss about it: what do you think? Do you want the command line to be clean in this case, or not?
It’s not a command line. That is precisely the problem. Personally, if the last used search term disappeared it would be fine with me. But maybe some people would like to use it as a repeat - I don’t know, as I’m not a full-time Mac Rhino user.
In Windows Rhino whatever you type in the command line remains active as a command - even if you click in a viewport - until you hit Enter to tell Rhino to execute it or Esc to cancel. If you misspelled something it will just tell you “Unknown command” and clear the command line waiting for the next entry.
So, in Windows “Esc” does clean it up, even if you clicked on the viewport?
Esc cancels anything happening on the command line. It cancels a running command or, if a command has not been executed yet and you are still in the process of typing, it escapes the typing and resets. Yes, you then get a blank line waiting for the next command input.
Excellent.
This is how I’d like the Mac version to act, too.
I’d be very happy if Mac Rhino got a real command line like Windows. Maybe in V9…
I have tried reproducing the issue you’re seeing, but on both my M1 Macbook Pro and M2 Max Macbook Pro this works as expected. Pressing esc always clears out the command input line.
My M1 is on MacOS Sonoma 14.1.1, the M2 Max is on 14.1.2. I have a non-standard key layout.
Do you use the Macbook Pro keyboard, or do you have an external keyboard? If the latter anything special, like perhaps a custom mechanical keyboard with a firmware like QMK, ZMK or Vial? Do you happen to have maybe Karabiner-Elements in use or other input mapping solutions?
If you’re not married to MacOS Monterey 12.7 I’d suggest upgrading to MacOS Sonoma.
Also, if you haven’t tried that before, running the Rhino command _Reset
might help too, although that will get rid of any customizations you have made.
Even after clicking in a viewport before hitting Enter? Esc clears the search box here if the focus is still on it. If you click in a viewport before entering, here at least nothing clears.
Ah, right. I thought I was doing that all the time, but apparently not. My bad I must clean out my glasses more often I see.
Seems it was reported recently as RH-80386 Esc to Clear Command Prompt
Ah, thanks!
Nice to see it reported.

I clearly have forgotten - age is getting to me.
Man, it was like 15 minutes ago
How old are you?
Yah sorry, I thought you meant a thread from months ago or something. I had missed the other thread.
As to my age - I’ll leave that for people to wonder about.
