Rhino WIP command line issues

Hello I am working on Rhino 8 WIP and I am having issues with my command line. Specifically, when I type a command the a command line auto populates and instead of allowing me to type the whole command and override the predictive text, the command Rhino assumes I am typing locks in and every letter after that is tagged onto the end. I also cannot backspace out of that predictive text.

So far, I can’t repeat that.
I’m on an Intel CPU Mac so that might be involved.

Can you provide a specific sequence of typed characters that will repeat the problem you’re seeing please?

Thanks

Any command. Its not command specific. I also cannot dock my main toolbar and command line in a tray. And to you note, it seems like an M chip processor issue however, I have opened this file on a colleagues computer with the same specs and they dont have the same issue. (I did a system reset to factory settings already to try to address this issue).

One of the developers with a Silicon Mac can not repeat what you’re seeing either.
He says what you describe will happen if your touch the TAB key or Spacebar.
Assuming you aren’t doing that intentionally, any chance you have a dirty keyboard?

I mean, define dirty, it’s an interesting potential to consider that it may be dirty below the keyboard itself… However, I clean my comp pretty much daily and I have no problem typing in any other software, platform, etc. I notice that I can consistently get 2 characters in so it’s not an issue with certain keys or commands. I additionally have found a work around by going to help to type my command (super inefficient for working and not always a solve since the shortkey commands aren’t always the same as the tool name itself) but I am able to type whatever I want there without issue.

I was thinking more along the lines of spilling a drink, but then yes, I would expect other applications to have the same issues.
Maybe try the Rhino “Reset” command?

@Maryann_Keeler can you please send a short video of what you’re seeing? I have an M1 Mac and don’t see this behavior, either.

Hi
I Suffered from this bug too. Until we got back the Floating Command Dialogue .

You can enable it in Perf. [bottom right side] and then you can close the default one… Downside is that the default command thing will come back with every new document , and you also loose the toolbar that is unfortunately glued to it.

I can’t see the Command Line at all in one file!
What’s up with that?
M1 Mac Studio MacOS 13.5.1

@f.drouillard is this persistent with that file? Or does the issue resolve when you restart Rhino? If it is persistent with the file, I’d like to take a look at it. You can upload the file here

It’s persistent with that file on both the Mac version and Windows version. Does not resolve when I restart Rhino.
Can do what I need to do when I save as a Rhino 7 file.

Running MacOS and Windows 11 (via Parallels) on an M1 Mac Studio.

hello @f.drouillard I’m sorry I didn’t see your reply earlier. I just opened the file you uploaded two weeks ago. Is this issue still happening at your end? I cannot repeat it here, neither in Windows nor Mac. Furthermore, I cannot think of a reason why this would happen either which makes searching for a solution quite impossible.
What I would suggest in this case is to import the file into a new fresh file and continue from there. I hope that resolves it.

Hello Gijs,

On Windows the command line still appears below the Standard toolbar above the modeling viewports.
On MacOS the problem persisted until I installedVersion 8 BETA (8.0.23255.13164, 2023-09-12)
Then I saw two Main toolbars, one with the command line above and another without.
I deleted the one without the command line, and the problem is resolved.

good to hear this is resolved

You might have accidentally dragged this part of the UI. Note you can return to Factury settings in V8 with the new _Reset command
