Why do I not see the latest Service Release Candidate?

I’m on Rhino 8 SR1 2023-11-7 (Rhino 8, 8.1.23311.13281) and I have subscribed to Service Release Candidates in the options but I don’t see the link to the latest SRC.

Hi Martin -

As far as I can tell, the Windows version was never released.
I tried flagging that here but it looks like that fell between the cracks. I’ll give it a bump…

Does the evaluation version of Rhino 8 get service release candidate updates?

By default, all V8 Rhinos get ‘Service Releases’, including Rhinos that are using an evaluation license.
You can turn on ‘Service Release Candidates’, but you are assuming a risk of unexpected problems.

SRCs are in a month long ‘stability’ phase. The idea is nothing more is done, the fixes are being tested and verified.

If you haven’t been told that a fix for a apecific problem is in the SRC, I would not turn on SRCa.
I would also recommend switching back to Service Releases after, so you are getting the best, most tested , stabil builds of Rhino as they are released.

If it were up to me, installing an SRC would automatically switch back to SR for this reason, but it doesn’t. You have to turn them off yoursaelf.
