What is the best way to model aircraft fuselage?

Say I want to model a fighter jets fuselage like F22, F35, Su 27, etc they have a detailed fuselage profile even if I use the cross-section drawing as a reference the surface still does not satisfy. what is the method you guys use approach to this?. loft? sweep? subd or network curve?
