View capture to file: black image

Hi Cecilia -

Not that I know of.
Have you considered running Rhino locally on your machine?
There are several comments about the use of VPN and possible issues in this thread:

Hi there,

I’m having the same issue, but was easily able to ViewCaptureToFile just two weeks ago… Let me know if you can help, thanks!

Hi - somehow your Intel 630 has been set at the primary OpenGL device instead of your P1000.
But the problem goes deeper:

Vendor Name: Microsoft Corporation
Render version: 0.0
Shading Language: Not supported

This says that it’s the Windows OS that is doing all the work, not your GPU.
Please open the Rhino Notifications panel and follow the links to update the drivers for both GPUs.

Hey! When I do ViewCaptureToFile only a few lines or only the background turnes black. Not the whole image. What could be wrong?

Welcome @feli.ladig

Hello, jumping in to this thread as I see a lot of relevant comments.
I am running Rhino on a computer without a GPU. I am able to see the model rendering in the editor windows, but when i try to capture viewport its all black.
Is it possible to capture viewports to file without a GPU?

Hi Tevita -

Can you please update to the current 7.6 release candidate and see if that works better?
-wim

Beautiful works now. Thanks very much for your help appreciate it.

Hi there,
My old computer just crashed and I’m now having the same issue (black image in any display mode when I try to capture a viewport) on the new computer with both Rhino 6 and Rhino 7.
Also, the standard appearance of the render mode looks really not sexy compared to what I had before in rhino 6.

Any advice?

Hi @raphael.vonallmen,

Can you check to see if your display cable is plugged into the NVIDIA T500 GPU? It looks like Rhino is not using the card for some reason. It might be that you have mistakenly plugged the cable into the integrated Intel GPU.

-David

Hi David,
All good. I’m on a laptop and it has 2 drivers.
For some reason the computer automatically activated the intel driver when working on rhino.
Thanks for your help.

(I mean… 2 graphic cards)

@raphael.vonallmen,

Has the problem been fixed now? Just need to check because it’s a bit unclear :).

-David

Yes, all good.
I’ve set the nvidia GPU to be activated when rhino is running.
Captures and appearance of render mode working fine

Hi @veershah0502,

It looks like your laptop’s GPU is not being used by Rhino. I would recommend completely uninstalling the GPU driver and installing the latest one downloaded from NVIDIA. Let me know if that works.

-David

Hello There,

I have a similar issue, the view port image is normal, but when rhino saves it as .png or jpg, the image is completely black with very lightly visible lines.
This problem started once using the educational version, I didn’t had this problem while using evaluation version. There is no changes to the hardware though, Please advise, thanks.
