Transform (Rotate) in Rhino 8

I want to rotate a 3-D object in one of the 2-D views (top) and when I choose “rotate” the object is treated as a 3-D form and does not rotate on the 2-D plane. In R7 this was not a problem, what has changed?

Hi Joe -

I don’t see the behavior that you describe on my machine.
When you start a new file, maximize the Top view, create a box, and run Rotate on that box, does that behave as you expect?

Hi Wim,
I already tried copying a box and transferred it to an isolated view and got the same result. When using the “top” view the 2-D rotation doesn’t see the box as 2-D but more like a 3-D box.
On another subject, the use of materials and where they are found is very uncomfortable compared to R7. I haven’t used R8 as much since there was the rendering conflict with Metal so I can’t find a number of tools.

Hi Joe -

Please don’t mix topics in a thread.

I’m afraid I don’t know what that means. It does sound, though, like you didn’t try what I asked. Can you post your 3dm file?

Hi,
I opened a new window and it worked. Is it a question of the objects position in relation to the Cplane?
Joe

Don’t have access to my PC right now, but is this because the Auto Cplane feature carries over from the previous view when it is selected? Does the Gumball for the object look like it has different vectors to your grid in the view?

Hi,
The Gumball at first is aligned with the object but when I click on a corner and try to turn my object by selecting a second point that point seems to want to click on other things and not the second point of the object. I turned off the Auto Cplane already.

I discovered the problem. In OSnap when center is selected the tools are distracted by centering. I say tools because I had the same problem in R7. Unlike the other OSnap selections “center” seems to take precedent when using other tools.
