Toolbar layout issues

Hi,
I am currently running Rhino 7 on Windows 10 with a RTX 2060 / 4K single screen setup. But the issue I have is actually one I struggle with since Rhino 3.
When I create a toolbar layout on my screen and save it in the UI folder under my name, close Rhino and reopen it, everything has moved around the screen. If I manually reload the previously saved UI, it also doesn’t match the saved layout at all. This is very tedious, as I have to recreate layouts ever and ever again. Also, when pulling a toolbar to the side to dock it there, it always snaps to the bottom of the Rhino-window, and I have to pull it upwards to join the one above. Is it difficult to detect where the existing box ends and to automatically move the newly docked toolbox to the bottom of the one above?
BR, Rob.

Hi Rob -

In Rhino 7 and earlier, you can save toolbars but not the layout of these in the UI. In theory, the placement of those UI elements should just stick. For many users, that is not the case. Sometimes, running Rhino as administrator once to place the UI elements, and then as the regular user will get things to stick. For some reason, that doesn’t always work either.

Because of this, we have completely rewritten the toolbars and panels system in Rhino 8. It’d be good if you could give that a shot and see if that works better for you.

Hi Wim,
thank you for your lightspeed-fast reply! I’ll follow your advice and switch to 8. Hope that will solve the issue. My colleagues will also switch to 8 now.
Thank you all at McNeel for the great job you’re doing and for your fantastic software! Have a nice X-Mas break and a good start next year!
Rob.

Be careful. Rhino 8 is still a work in progress.

Thank you DanBayn. You are completely right, and your warning is appreciated. But in the end, we can always save down to 7 in case something doesn’t work the way it should.
BR,
Rob
