Texture mapping UV editor not working

Hi everyone,
I’m trying to render a wooden tray handle, and using UV editor and flow to make the grain flow along the curve. I’m following the process described here
I’m unwrapping the top and bottom faces first.
After using _Flow , it looks about right in the UV editor, but the mesh is strange on the piece, like there’s added curves in the mesh.


Any idea what might be causing this, and how to fix it? The file’s attached

A couple of things: The repeat value for your wood texture is set to 0.01 - I’ve taken the liberty of bumping it back to 1, so that it’s a little easier to adjust. If you need to adjust the size of a material, I find it easier to change the UV repeat value - but YMMV.
The actual problem in this case is the fact that your mesh (that’s the render mesh, which is used as the basis for the UV mapping) is way to coarse for this type of operation. In the attached file I’ve upped the render mesh for the whole scene, but it can be done with a custom render mesh, if just needed for one (or a few) object(s).


With a finer mesh, I’ve used FlowAlongSrf instead of just flow, creating lofted surfaces from the edges of the handle side. Those curves were rebuild to degree 3 curves with 500 control points each, so that the loft is nice and smooth. A similar loft was made with straight edges as the target surface for the flow operation - see the attached file for the result.

I’ve also taken the liberty of deleting all the other, irrelevant objects you passed along - please only post the object(s) relevant to the question - and moving the object to 0,0 for my own convenience. I reckon you can move back where it belongs :slight_smile:
