System freezes by Rhino?

Since yesterday I have some system freezes, always Rhino was open and I used it. But I’m not sure it’s caused by Rhino. Maybe other users got freezes too. I’m the only one?

Freeze means, that the complete screen is freezed and nothing can be done anymore, only pressing the power button.

Before it freezes, can you please run SystemInfo in V6 and post the results?
This could be a problem with a plug-in or with display drivers.

Is there anything you can do that is likely to result in a freeze?

You can also go into Task Manager, Rhino the frozen Rhino on the apps list, right-click, and choose the option to Create Dump file. That’s the content of the memory registers and can be helpful in identifying the cause of the freeze.

Thanks

For now I don’t found a way to repeat the freezes. Also it’s a complete system freeze so that I can’t open the task manager anymore.

Some minutes before I got a crash during I used my email program. Two Rhino tasks was open in the background. Short before the freeze the mouse was moveable only and than all freeze.

even though your drivers are fairly new, It would be worth updating since the rtx cards are new to the market.

grab a a newer driver for each card and see if it helps-

Thank you for the hint @theoutside. I’m a little bit limited to choose drivers since for V-Ray there are recommended drivers. After the crashes started I updated to the last recommended driver but it was the same.

Hi Micha -
Are you also getting these lock-ups when running Rhino in Safe Mode?
-wim

Interesting, I never used the Safe Mode. I will try it.

Thank you,
Micha

I tested an older Nvidia driver and an older Rhino SR, but the problem stays. I suppose so it’s Windows system or hardware problem. Since the machine was my backup system only and I’m back to my main machine, I can work again without freezes. Looks like my backup machine needs a system refresh.

Thanks,
Micha

Safe Mode isn’t a fix.
It starts Rhino without OpenGL graphics and without plug-ins.

Once thing you can do:
The next time Rhino “freezes” on this computer:

  1. Start Windows’ Task Manager
  2. Find Rhino 6 in the “Apps” list
  3. Right click and use the option to create a dump file
  4. Send us the resulting file describing the circumstances

Hopefully there will be something in the registers that points to a likely problem.
