System crashing

Im using and HP envy laptop to run Rhino 7. This is the only thing this computer was suppose to be used for. However the system crashes all the time. I have done research and the system should be enough to run the program. I had had a similar problem running counter strike global offensive, but a computer tech fixed the issue… said there was a setting that needed to be turned off, but it was long ago and I do not remember and he is now out of business.
Any ideas would be great. I have reloaded the program three times and fussed around with it as much as I can. I can not afford a new computer and hope to make this work.

Let’s start with getting a look at what resources Rhino sees.

Please run the Rhino SystemInfo command and post the results.

BTW - Uninstalling/Reinstalling is generally a waste of time. All that happens are files that were originally installed and not modified are removed and replaced. This does not delete settings or configurations which are almost always where the problem is.

Thanks

If it is my graphics card… would you mind explaining to me why I was able to play a first person shooter for so long without trouble? I feel like that program would be more intensive due to the mltiplayer and world mapping aspect of it. I know next to nothing about computers so this CAD thing is a whole new world, I just hope I can use it on this machine after purchasing it the program!!! Thank you for your help.

Hi Corey - I would do two things - update drivers for both video chips to the latest available from Nvidia and Intel. and in Options > Plug-ins page, disable Elefront and then close and reopen Rhino - does either of those help?

-Pascal

I will definitely try them, thank you.

Your other game was probably using DirectX instead of OpenGL like Rhino uses. You can’t compare the two.
It’s like complaining the orange juice is no good when you make it from grapes.

In addition to the driver update suggested by Pascal, your system has only half of the minimum VRAM for a single, standard resolution monitor.
My guess is you’ve had it for 4-5 years now.

Very good guess, and thank you for explaining it to me. I don’t think the way computers do.

Well if theres anything you can think of that’ll allow me to use it at least until I can put together the money for a dedicated workstation I’d greatly appreciate it.

Well, to be blunt, that is a crap computer for Rhino.
This is the current Intel driver from 14 May:
https://downloadmirror.intel.com/30381/a08/igfx_win10_100.9466.exe

This is the current Nvidia driver from 22 June:
https://www.nvidia.com/content/DriverDownload-March2009/confirmation.php?url=/Windows/471.11/471.11-notebook-win10-64bit-international-dch-whql.exe&lang=us&type=geforcem

No insult taken. It served its purpose and got me through college. Just hoping to get a little more out of it to do personal work until I can upgrade. According to my computer both drivers are up to date, I disabled the plug in.

What do the driver dates show in SystemInfo now that you’ve updated them?

the dates were not the ones you provided so I went to the site and downloaded the intel driver and was told it wasnt validated for this computer. So it was not updated but the date on systeminfo was 12 8 2020.
nvidia loaded fine it appears and I will copy the information over and you can see if im right.

Method I’ve used for updating Intel video driver when the system came with a “custom” driver:

Could you please explain this to me in a little more directional detail. Will I just be uninstalling the driver and then reinstalling it? What adapter is it taking about.
I do apologize I know nothing at all.

Generally, the 620s did not complain about the driver update.
Older Intel GPU still so.

Here is information I used to routinely send to help with this update:
