Silent crashes at Rhino startup

Has anyone else experienced silent crashes when running Rhino and VisualARQ Beta? The exact reasons are unknown to me, but this is not the first VA Beta to cause this type of problem. For some reason (possibly the VA panels - Levels and Sections), Rhino loads Tibidabo and Grasshopper immediately. I did not change the default template to VisualARQ. It doesn’t happen every time, but quite often.

VisualARQ 3.0.3.18206

Rhino immediately loads Grasshopper at the start and it just shuts down after a while.

My file template settings

That’s correct. Rhino will automatically load the owner plugins of the panels you had opened when Rhino was closed.

So, there is no Crash Report dialog?

Enric

No crash report that I’m familiar with (also no sad Rhino with the tech contact dialog). But I found something in \AppData\Local\CrashDumps : Rhino.exe.8792.dmp maybe it will be useful? It’s 186 MB but I can send it to you.

Does the modified time of this DMP file match one of those crashes?

If yes, please, zip it and send it to me (visualarq@asuni.com) using WeTransfer (or a similar service) so I can take a look.

Thanks,

Enric

I’ve sent you the crash file. I think it’s correlated to the Rhino startup problem because time roughly matches and I didn’t have any other Rhino crashes this evening.

Hi @Czaja,

It doesn’t seem to be a VisualARQ related crash. The only thing that I see is that the .NET framework is crashing while the Garbage Collector is being called.

What I see is that there are a lot of Grasshopper add-ons loaded, and that your Rhino 8 is configured to use the legacy .NET Framework runtime. Can you please try to change it to the default .NET Core runtime? There is a command SetDotNetRuntime to change the .NET runtime.

Enric

I changed it on purpose, don’t remember why. I don’t remember exactly but it solved one of my problems with Hops components / Rhino inside Revit. I will try to set it to default, but also I hope to not jump between versions to make different parts of Rhino work :). Thanks, I will experiment with it.
