Grasshopper causing a crash when opening

Hello,

I just installed Rhino V8 on a new computer and noticed that if I have a model open and then open grasshopper it crashes Rhino. If I open Rhino, then open grasshopper, then my model it doesn’t crash. The major plugin I have running are Visualarq 3, Vray 7, and Rhinocam 2025.

Here is this bit if its helpful:

Also, not sure if this is related, but I am getting these messages when closing rhino.

Hi Jason -

When Rhino crashes, does the crash reporter pop up? I’m not finding crash reports from your eMail address, so if that dialog pops up, please make sure to always send that in.

Does that have to be a specific model or does a simple box in a new file also do this?

What happens when you disable the plug-ins in the plugin manager and restart Rhino? Do you still get the crash?
-wim

The crash reporter does not pop up. Rhino just disappears.

I tried a simple file with just a box and grasshopper opened fine. I opened some older files that were not associated with a grasshopper file and grasshopper did not crash Rhino when launched. I found that if the file had geometry that had been baked from a previous session and I opened the file before launching grasshopper for the first time then Rhino crashes. I have attached a test file that does what I am describing, at least on my new computer. I haven’t tried it on my old computer. I did try disabling vray and rhinocam and the issue persisted.

grasshopper test.3dm (1.7 MB)

Why only those two? You should also try disabling all plug-ins that do not ship with Rhino, including VisualARQ and Tibidabo.

I already had Visualarq disabled, I forgot to mention that. If it were enabled rhino wouldn’t crash since Visualarq launches grasshopper when you open Rhino.

That said, everything worked fine when I disabled Tibidabo. I didn’t realize that was associated with Visualarq. I often disable Visualarq when I’m not working on architecture projects so Rhino opens faster. I guess I should also be disabling Tibidabo. It didn’t cause problems on my old computer.

Thanks for the help. Not sure it its a bug or just my computer.

Correct. I’ll move this topic to VisualARQ so they are aware that there’s a crash for them to solve.

@fsalla here’s a case for you to check!

Hi @Jason_McCloskey can you describe the steps you follow until the crash happens? I’ve opened your 3dm file, then Grasshopper but nothing strange happens. Please provide a Grasshopper definition if necessary.
Also, can you test this again with all third-party Grasshopper add-ons disabled? I’m not sure if this is related to VisualARQ at all.
Thanks,
