Section planes / clipping planes / clipping drawing / make 2d problem

  • Clipping drawings crashes when I turn add background on.
-make 2d crashes with and without clipping planes.
-knowing that the file worked perfectly natural in rhino 7 with clipping planes and make 2d.
-tried turning off GPU tessellation (didn’t work)

PC specs:
-GPU 4080
-RAM 64 gb
-CPU I9 13900 K

Hi Mahmoud,

Please type SystemInfo into the Rhino command line and post your results.

Can you isolate a small file that exhibits the behaviour? Thanks

@Japhy please respond man i’m in big trouble

Lets disable this plugin via File>Properties>Plugins and restart Rhino.

If that isn’t the issue lets double check your video card configuration. Is everything look ok in Device Manager>Display Adapters?

I could see it being an issue if Windows was falling back on the UHD Graphics 770 for some reason (typically power management settings in laptops)

Let me the results. If you can post a small file we can take a look. If privacy is needed you can upload to mcneel here.

Looking at the D5 forum it looks like they are working on a Rhino 8 version.

The d5 converter is the problem then ?

How to fix this and let it use the rtx exclusively, i guess this is the problem because in my company PC its stating standard graphics not hybrid and it works properly so I want to know how to switch from hybrid to standard so my gpu is doing the job I don’t know how to configure this as Im using a built PC not a laptop.

Lets start by disabling the D5 plugin and restarting Rhino.

I disabled, restart, tried make 2d it crashed again.

If we’ve eliminated the 3rd party variable (run systeminfo again to double check) then we are looking at Video config or something about the file.

Can you successfully run Make2D in a new file with simple geometry? Thanks

with simple geometry yes, if there is a high number of polysurfaces it crashes, knowing that it works in the office pc but in my pc it doesn’t (it worked on my pc in windows 10 when i upgraded to 11 it started to crash )

Have you done a clean install of the video drivers since the upgrade to Windows 11?

When installing the driver choose the custom option and enable the clean install option in the dialog.

By drivers you mean studio or game ready drivers right ? or something else ?

I did a clean installation right now, same issue and many other applications stopped working like D5 ://
its getting worse

This is pointing towards a Video card/configuration issue. The UHD seems superfluous, but not going to recommend a particular troubleshooting path, these might be better handled by your IT dept.

I think i have to revert to windows 10 … this is a personal pc no it dep available.

@Japhy
I went to the IT made a factory reset not only normal reset, reinstalled windows 10, and rhino 8 without any plug in and yet its not working on the file only on simple geometries, knowing that it worked on my 2080rtx laptop with no issues i tested the same file.
