Seems the linear lights only produce light at one end. Looks like a “point light” instead of a florescent tube. Just thought I’d mention this here so someone can put it on a bug tracker.
Linear lights I haven’t actually worked on yet. There isn’t a primitive like that per se, but I can easily simulate it by adding a mesh of the same dimensions and attaching an emission shader to it. I have logged an item for this to keep track of it on my todo list: RH-31704
