Yes, that is expected. Or perhaps I’m misunderstanding what you’re reporting. If you could be specific about which textures you are expecting to see, we might be able to help.
This sounds a lot like a case of this (very annoying) bug:
RH-69542 Panels: Floating a container outside of virtual desktop causes container to disappear on Mac
which we’ve hopefully 
fixed in Rhino 8.3. You can give it a try using the latest Service Release Candidate and check.
