Is it expected that shaded view mode does not show textures? The only way to see textured objects with v8 is to use rendered view mode. Also, with a multi-monitor setup, moving tools to another screen causes them to disappear. This issue persists.

Yes, that is expected. Or perhaps I’m misunderstanding what you’re reporting. If you could be specific about which textures you are expecting to see, we might be able to help.

This sounds a lot like a case of this (very annoying) bug:

RH-69542 Panels: Floating a container outside of virtual desktop causes container to disappear on Mac

which we’ve hopefully :crossed_fingers: fixed in Rhino 8.3. You can give it a try using the latest Service Release Candidate and check.

There are textures mapped to geometry in the model. When display mode is set to ‘shaded’ texture maps do not show. If view mode is set to ‘rendered’ texture maps do show. This is different behaviour compared to v7. It is very helpful to show textures in shaded views rather than rendered views for many reasons, i.e. more responsive display.

I’m having trouble reproducing this behavior in Rhino 7 and Rhino 8 (they both behave the same way: Shaded views do not display textures or materials).

Could you please upload a file that behaves one way in Rhino 7 but another in Rhino 8?

No! v7 has always displayed texture maps in my experience.

That’s odd, I’ve used Rhino since 1.0 and Shaded mode has never shown textures by default - that’s what Rendered mode is for. I haven’t used MacRhino since V6, but it definitely wasn’t that way then.

Sadly, on macOS, it’s not visually clear when one modifies a display mode. What happens when you click on the Restore Defaults button in Options -> Display Modes -> Shaded?

That restored shaded display mode to not display textures. Didn’t know that was the default. I’ve only been using Rhino for one year, starting with v7 and don’t recall changing the display mode, therefore thought the display in v8 to be not displaying correctly. Learning every day!
