Rhino 8 very sluggish

When in auto-rendered or raytrace R8 does not respond very well or at all. If I try to select another mode like"shaded" there is a significant time lapse for the command to be executed.

Hi Joe - is this true with any file?
@Joe_Neill - you might also want to make sure you have the current service release of V8.

Hi Pascal,
There is definitely a problem when running raytrace. while it was running I tried to change the position of my model and the response to the mouse movement was not at all precise. The view jumped from one to another with a delay as well. In addition to that, when I went into the drop down menu to change the mode to shaded I had to do it several times for « shaded » was highlighted and the view changed. I have not checked but I believe I am up to date since I closed Rhino and usually when I open Rhino for the first time I get the update window.
Thanks
Joe

I am up to date.

@Joe_Neill can you post the results of the Rhino command _SystemInfo please?

Here is the sys info and another image of my model. The left side is the original textures and the right side is after using the « mirror command. Also when selecting auto-render it took quite a long time to change from shaded to rendered. The size is 169 Mo.

That is not a problem for uploading to Rhino Accounts

Hi Nathan,
I found something by accident. All the textures on the right side of my drawing were copied as a custom object and not as a surface. When i changed the distorted texture into a surface the texture (map) came back but not the same one from the original texture. It was still a map but not from the same place as in the original placement.

More info. The image on the left is the original map cut into pieces and the image on the right is the supposed mirror image of the original but is totally different.

How did you mirror this? I am unable to reproduce by mirroring the original piece.

I selected all of the different forms and grouped them. Then in top view I did the mirror.

Precision, I grouped all of the map forms on the front side then did the mirror.

Hi Nathan,
I tried to mirror my drawing and the same thing happened. I grouped the front side then come mirror while in the top view and got the same result. I then separated the parts of the good side and tried to mirror the parts separately with the same result. I repeated what I did yesterday by changing the type of object from custom to surface and again the same result. I get a map image but not a mirror image. I have no idea how the map section has been chosen by Rhino?

Here are the two sides, the one on the left is the original and the right is the mirrored image, not at all the same.

Hi again,
I did some experiments and it seems there is something corrupted in my textures. I did a mirror image of a simple plane with the map on it and it worked fine. In the second image I cut the map plane and then grouped them then I did the mirror image again and all seems fine. I suppose finding the problem is the mythical needle in the haystack dilemma?

I am not sure what you are doing to have this break for you. From the recording I posted you can see it works on my M2 Macbook pro.

What I did was to create a plane then apply the picture(map) on to the plane, then I cut the different forms then extruded them to create the thickness then I deleted the plane of the box behind the map image then I grouped them.

Where is it posted?

I tried something different. Instead of doing a mirror image I rotated the one side to the position of the mirrored image and got the same striated result. That must mean there is a problem somewhere with my construction of that side. I also did the reverse, I mirrored the other side so it would take the place of the original and it was fine. ???
