Try the new HatchPattern command in Rhino WIP. Create your own Hatch Patterns using Rhino 2D geometry.

Why This Feature?
Previously, to obtain different hatch patterns in Rhino you were limited to importing *.pat files (AutoCAD’s hatch pattern file format)
To create custom hatch patterns, you needed to manually edit these .pat files. This workflow presented several challenges:
-
Technical barrier: Users needed to understand the .pat file syntax and structure
-
Trial and error: Visualizing how pattern definitions would look required multiple edit-save-import cycles
-
Limited accessibility: Non-technical users or those unfamiliar with .pat format couldn’t easily create custom patterns
The new HatchPattern command provides a visual, geometry-based workflow where you simply draw the pattern you want using Rhino planar curves, within a tile rectangle. Rhino handles the pattern definition automatically, making custom hatch creation accessible to all users regardless of technical background.
Architecture and Design Studios can now create a custom library of Hatch Patterns to share across their team. Streamlining workflows and consistency across projects.
HatchPattern Command Options
Once you run the **HatchPattern**command, you’ll see the following Command Line options:
- Add: starts the pattern creation process.
- Delete: removes exisitng patterns from the 3dm file.
- Import: imports existing patterns from other .3dm or .pat files.
Try it:
- Run the
HatchPattern. - Select Add in the Command Line options.
- Define a tile rectangle. Select two points in the viewport.
- Select the curves for pattern - These need to be planar. All curves will be broken down into lines before being added to the hatch pattern.
- Give your pattern a Name. If the name allready exists, the replacement is possible.
