Can't use Mac Rhino WIP at all [Solved]

There’s something screwy with my install of Rhino WIP on mac. Primary symptoms:

Command line doesn’t respond at all, nothing I type does anything
left and right panels don’t show ever, I can toggle the bottom-corner buttons as much as I like but this is all I get:

It is possible this state is due to something i have in local settings — I tried at one point to import my Rhino 7 command aliases over and tried a bunch of different stuff to import options, so maybe I corrupted the settings in some way. Is this a known issue? Is there some way I can reset to factory settings? Issue has persisted through several updates, currently on Version 8 BETA (8.0.23286.01004, 2023-10-13). I am running Mac OS 13.4.1 (Ventura).

I was able to get one button back by going to toolbar layout, but had a really hard time figuring out how to dock both panels to the right (I guess I can’t do this while they’re in “collapsed” mode?") In the video you see I finally got it, but this was quite puzzling:

In general the new toolbar/panel management UI seems quite confusing…

why doesn’t clicking the ... do anything? I expect a menu or something. even dragging it does nothing
why do I not see the panel open sometimes when clicking those buttons, but other times I do?
why do I get a “double-stack” of the buttons sometimes?
why is it so hard to move the “panel” view of those tools? (I’d expect at least a little space at the top above the tabs that would let me drag the window)

(And I still can’t for the life of me figure out how to type a command, although ⌘K works to bring up the command search palette. I expect to be able to type “RECT” and see those letters somewhere in the UI, and hit enter to get the rectangle command)

I suspect the inability to enter commands was because I didn’t have the “Command” container open anymore (I like to hide away all the left buttons because I don’t use them.) Interesting that all of the container management UI doesn’t seem to let me re-add this container, but I can certainly close it in the UI:

in my humble opinion the command line should still respond to interaction even if it is not visible — it is a core interaction mechanism.

After closing the Command dialog if i type in the view it returns. I’m not seeing any recent changes in this regard.

i had the same issue also everything gone no command dialogue visible or appearing when entering anything when i installed the beta, the wip was having these issues either almost as often as i used it before which was then not often since it was really unusable. resetting again helped and i have not encountered it recently.

are you using the autohide for the mac os menu bar? i remember this one often created problems also with other software, adobe for instance was having issues in many regards when this is activated.

Did you update to Sonoma? my friend at work did and he’s having a similar experience with the WIP and is using V7 for the time being.

I haven’t updated macOS yet and everything seems fine

I see that behavior now, but was not seeing it before the reset. Seems like kind of an odd interaction to me… what if I wanted to close that palette / not see those buttons, but still have command line interaction? Is there a way to delete the buttons from that palette and just have the command line input?

Did you go for a while without updating to the latest beta? Just curious because I ran into a similar mess when I was jumping between builds over a large time span to try and track down when a regression occurred.

It’s possible — I was on a september (10th?) build before I upgraded to latest this morning (and was already experiencing this issue in the september build, no idea how long it had been before that)
