Rhino settings backup in RH8

Hey guys, being somehow reckless while using Rhino, in Rhino 5/6/7 some of my Rhino crashes reset my Rhino to factory settings.

All that I could backup was what could fit into my template *.3dm file and some restore command that never worked as I hoped it would.

I believe that Rhino 8 is supposed to improve the way how to back up and restore the Rhino settings. Do you have any helpful hints?

What I care about:

  • Options → mouse, layout color, …
  • buttons on the top panel
  • layout of rightside panels (Properties, Layers, …)
  • Osnap / Grid settings

Rhino 8 randomly undoes all my settings every few days

Hi Jonish -

Rhino 8 added a way to back up and restore the window layout of the UI.
Other settings are as in previous versions.
To keep a backup of “everything” in one place, it’s probably easiest to copy-paste the settings folder in %Appdata%\McNeel\Rhinoceros\8.0\

Thanks, Wim, that sounds like a good way to do it. Actually I’m doing the same with my Ghostrunner savegame. :smiley:
