Hi, I use Rhino 8, and one of my file doesn’t open and keep showing
“creating meshes” notification
this didn’t happened before and the only way to close the file is to force quit.
the file is about 450mb. Could anyone tell me what is the reason and how to fix this?
weird thing is that it only happen in the windows version and it opens just fine in my macbook
Hi it worked after i imported in a new file but whenever i save and close and open it again, the same thing happens
is there any way to fix this completely?
We’d need to see the file in order to be able to say anything more about this. Please use Rhino - Upload to Support to upload the file and make sure to mention this thread in the comments field.
Apart from that, how long are you waiting for the file to open? If I have to guess, you have some viewport in a technical display mode and, when opened, all the meshes need to be created. That can take some time depending on your system and your file. In that spirit, please run the Rhino SystemInfo command and copy-paste the result here.

I had this same issue happen to me this morning. It happened to me several months ago, but somehow was eventually able to open my file for no apparent reason.
The import trick worked for me this morning- but I unfortunately had to abandon my Named Positions (as they can’t be imported like Views or Layer States)… as well as all of my Vray render settings…
It would be nice if there was a way to override the view displays upon opening (or at least having ESC actually do something when it says “Press Esc to cancel”.
Thanks.
Opening that file complains about a missing font on my system (Segoe UI Regular) but opens within 3 seconds. All viewports are set to Wireframe which leads me to believe that, perhaps, there’s a custom display mode involved.
If you (make a backup and) delete that custom display mode, does opening that file still hangs?
Apart from that, since you mention V-Ray settings, do you also have issues when you disable that plug-in and restart Rhino?
