Rhino does not use any of my 2 working graphic cards

Hello,

I’m an architecture student and I’m having a problem where all of a sudden neither of my two graphics cards are showing up or being used by my Rhino 7 on my computer (Legion 5 15ACH6H - Windows 11).

Out of nowhere, my rhino started behaving strangely, display modes appeared strange and it was not possible to plot any layout or in view mode. So after much investigation with my teacher, we are now sure that I have two graphics cards on the computer (AMA Radeon Graphics and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU), they are not broken and my drivers are up to date. I’ve also checked for viruses with the Malmwarebytes program, and it says it couldn’t find anything wrong. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Rhino multiple times without any results, and put all settings to default.

So in the systeminfo, it says “No graphics device is being used”. BUT I definitely have two working graphics cards on my computer. This is a problem that arose about 1 month ago completely suddenly and has previously worked just fine using Rhino with RTX.

Is this something that someone has experienced before and is there a solution to this?

Best regards, Astrid

hi @Astrid_Hardafsegerst what do you have set on this page in your windows system settings:

Hello! It looks like I have the same settings as you. It is in swedish, hope that is okay! I can send another screenshot if you like.

Instead of reinstalling, see if a repair of Rhino fixes your issue. It could be that a Windows update has caused issues, that won’t be fixed by reinstalling Rhino.

To repair, choose add remove programs, then Modify:

and choose repair

Hi Astrid - If rep[air does not sort it out, I would do a clean install of the latest GPU drivers for your GPUs.

-Pascal

Already tried that and it didn’t change anything…

Tried now to do an clean install insteed of an “normal” install and still Rhino can’t understand that I have graphic cards.

@Astrid_Hardafsegerst In your System > Display > Graphics, there is an Nvidia Contain(er?) icon set to “save power”? That one is suspicious. Note from one of our dev. Rhino will not decide which of the devices to use, that is handled by the OS.

Can you post a screencap of your Device manager, specifically the Display adapters?

It is now working correctly!! After the clean install, there was a warning symbol for the AMD Radeon ™ Graphics that said that it didn’t work correctly (which wasn’t there after the “normal” install of the GPU drivers). But then after restarting the computer there was a change in the Device manager, the warning symbol was gone and now it says that “this device works correct”. So the clean install of the lastest GPU drivers had to be the solution. Thank you so much!!
