Rhino 8 User Interface Freeze Approaches

I agree, i reacted to the first post listing dates for different freeze states. We can split it to separate discussion.

6 posts were split to a new topic: WIP Toolbar Editing #2

Does this mean that RH-69855 marked for “UI Freeze” will not be worked on for V8? My hopes were that this feature from V7 on the mac would be present in V8. As it is now in V7, having the pop up command prompt solves the command prompt issues in V8. This kind of command prompt frees up screen space and allows us to use it when needed. Not including this already included V7 feature would be a regression in the V8 workflow.
The Pop up command line IMO is the best solution. My hopes is that it will be included for V8 and then you could consider something more universal for V9.

RH-74393 Toolbar Layout menu option is obsolete

should be cleaned up in the latest WIP.

I agree. I very rarely use the icons. Having them take up screen real estate 100% of the time is very cumbersome.
Please bring the pop up command line (or sth. Equivalent, for example a compact command menu/bar) back to RH8, a more elaborate/universal version can be developed for RH9

Now that the V8 UI freeze date is upon us, will McNeel be releasing a list of the items that have (and probably just as importantly, haven’t) made the cut?

A list of the YouTrack items concerned, split into “Yes” and “No” camps would be a good place to start.

We aren’t at UI Freeze yet. The initial date that Brian posted has shifted as we are still “pushing pixels” around.

This thing also happens right now after every Rhino reopen. Two containers have an expansive manner.
I hoped this is a thing of the past, so I report immediately.

hi @Czaja I cannot repeat this here. The last thing I remember related to shifting UI is some localization issues. Can you send me your _SystemInfo and info about your localization settings?

I have the same problem

Is this the info you need?

@Czaja thanks, yes I can repeat with your setup. This is a know bug listed as RH-70275 Workspaces: Keep size of containers between sessions

It basically comes down to the fact that your regional settings is using a comma as decimal separator. (which causes the layout NOT to stick)

Wow. Des that mean it occurs with any regional/language setting that uses a comma as the separator?

It does with german…

A post was split to a new topic: RUI files and UI setup issues

RH-70275 is fixed in the latest WIP

There are fundamental issues with Rhino 8 on Mac that require constant restarting of the application. I have already addressed problems with the user interface, rendering issues (specifically materials transparency) and editing of layer names in separate posts on this forum.

For some months I went back to Rhino 7 in order to progress my work, thinking these problems would be solved. I’ve just updated to 8.8.8 and the issues persist, although the persistent lag in navigation of menu items seems to have been fixed.

How to address these issues? I can begin to detail them if that is helpful (as I already did with the transparency issue) but I wonder if they are interrelated somehow. The problem is that they all seem to be intermittent and things usually work fine after a restart.

hi @tgra I am looking through the issues you have posted.

yes that’s helpful
