Rhino 8 UI panel edge & title bar pixel sizes

  1. Is there a way to control the width of the R8 panels? They are too small and require too much precision mouse hovering to control. See mouse pointer hovering below.

  2. Can we control the panel title bars (is that what they’re called?) sizes and colors? Out of the box, they blend into the menu bar (is that what it’s called?) so it’s not apparent until a mouse hover that they’re at all modifiable.

Thanks.

Any response to this? Is there a sensitivity setting I can adjust? Am I the only one struggling to precisely position the mouse when attempting to manipulate panels/containers/etc in Rhino 8?

Agreed - they are maybe 1 pixel and that is particularly hard to grab with a 4K screen.

I reopened RH-77150 Sidebars are too difficult to resize

as for the other issue, Can you go to Window > Window Layout > Manage Window Layouts, export the rhw, and send that?

thanks

Hmm. It doesn’t look like I can export an rhw that way. For me, all the options are grayed out. I haven’t made any changes to the out of the box colors, for what it’s worth.

(Also… while we’re at it, for me this window is too large, there are dead and invisible gaps between the buttons, the light blue highlighting stutters, and I can select what looks like a horizontal separator after the list of “window layouts” for some reason.)

you need to hit the first icon, to create a new Window Layout, after that you can export it.

Interesting, ok. Done and uploaded here.

Thanks for looking into it - any response to item #2 above, sizes and color control?

The issue you have is caused by switching an advanced setting Rhino.Options.Advanced.UseEntireWidthForTopBand to False

@Gijs
The active zones are actually identical size.
In V8 theses zones are adjacent to other active zones, e.g. the viewport.
So if you move the mouse 1 pixel away, you are over another active zone.

See video, 1st V6, 2nd V8:

I have to say, this is a pretty annoying development in R8. Some elements of the UI require tremendous mouse hovering precision, while with others there’s way too much wiggle room.

To summarize, panel edge adjustments require way too much precision, and Layer column width adjustments ranges are too loose:
