I would love to see this behaviour to be rectified. Thank you.
One character gap from tick would be ideal

please. this is the most annoying thing in rhino for me. probably the easiest to fix.
hi @ivan.galik
The only control I see is text gap, and that seems to affect both the bottom and left margin of that text, and apparently that setting has more influence on the left/right margins than on the bottom margin.
I’ve added this thread to RH-69028 Text Fit “Auto” Locates Text Too Far Away from Extension Lines
there was a different topic about this it was explanied how the formula is
Text Gap is something else and a little bit broken too.
Edit: I should explain better, if you have alternate units underneath the dim line and imperial units (or any character that sticks down) the text gap gets distorted.
But as mentioned, it affects the left/right margins, which imo doesn’t make much sense.
You probably already know this but just in case:
Even if the text isn’t centered on the dimension, the control point at the center of the dim line still controls where the text is placed.
After moving the text from wherever its default location is the control point now sticks with the text:
I’m 75% sure that’s not the issue here but rather having to move the text every time it’s off to the side, which can be a little tedious (I’ve gotten used to it personally).
