Rhino 8 freezes my computer completely

Hi

I am working with a relatively big file in rhino with a cloud point drawing as a worksession in rhino 8.

Every now and then, the computer freezes completely and I have to turn it off from the button (which is not the best option). It does not matter if I use rhino 7 or 8.

It does not allow to click on anything or press any key.

I tried lowering the quality of the view and Open GL and seems it works better, but then the view is terrible, specially with the cloudpoint drawing.

I wonder if it is a graphic card issue, I have Intel Iris Xe Graphics model. I’d appreciate if anyone has the same issue and can give me a solution, since I am using the trial to see if it’s worth it for me.

Intel integrated video is NOT adequate for running Rhino.

yep as James mentioned, intel xe graphics only have 1gb vram.

4gb vram per monitor is the min recommended spec for Rhino. More is better for sure.

doing huge files on this machine, you are effectively trying to go to the moon with a used radio flyer wagon.

If you are in the market for a new lap top to run rhino. Most importantly, Look for one with a **standalone video card. Specifically an Nvidia RTX(recommended) or higher end AMDcard **. I did make some changes to the upcoming 8.13 service release to attempt to use a little less memory on the GPU for point clouds, but I have my doubts that it will help much. Point cloud tend to be huge and in general require heftier GPUs.
