Rhino 8 Beta opens two notifications panels

The 8 beta opens a floating Notifications panel on start up as well as updating my permanently docked panel. Given the boring nature of most notifications, I really don’t need to see them twice!

Updated: it seems that the issue resolved itself once I switched to my user created Window Layout.

Lucky you. I’ve got three now. Maybe one is yours - do you want it back?

I got more containers.

Have you tried the new command “Reset” …?
Beware, it really destroy any user setting!

This is going to be my favorite Rhino command to use in the next few years.

Now you’re just showing off…

I’ve deleted my two unnecessary containers: let’s see when and how Rhino reinstates them.

now it seems the Reset command was so necessary since I inherited 3 years of WIP junk!

So far I can’t figure out how to duplicate this issue.
Any ideas?

I have it happening on two machines so it seems to be more than an isolated event. I suspect that it is necessary to have notifications in the right hand container like this:

I don’t know if it then takes a new release install to trigger the extra, or whether the “Unable to renew licence” message is responsible (sometimes the floating notification window appears before the main Rhino screen). Or something else.

But on one machine I have deleted the two extra containers. If a new one appears I will let you know the circumstances.

Final thought: this isn’t new to R8.

If you use the Reset command and go to the default window layout, does the problem go away?

I guess I can afford to tank the laptop install - I’ll try reset and see what happens. I’ll update you in a few days if still clear, or sooner if the extra panel reappears.

You can name and save your Window Layout.

Thanks, done that.

If a Reset sorts it, it might be instructional if restoring the saved windows layout brings the problem back.

John,

After Reset I checked the container list and have eight notifications containers listed!

Is that to be expected after a reset?

I will delete them before continuing.

yes, and I redefined my UI’s rhw

Here’s mine:

This is probably too late, but from the Developers:
“Please have the customer do an export from the Reset command but not reset. JohnM can diagnose.”

Maybe you can do this on your other system that is having the problem.

@John_Brock,

After Reset the standard setup doesn’t include a Notification tab in the right hand container (RHC). I forced a “Do you want to keep using Rhino here” notification and Rhino added the Notification tab to the RHC. On next opening Rhino the RHC still had it. Unfortunately Rhino also opened a floating Notifications panel, so we’re back to two.
