Rhino 7 crashes when trying to open Options

Dear all,

I recently had to purchase a new GPU as my old one (AMD FirePro W9100) died away and finally got a AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT - not a professional GPU like the one before but the only one available within 5 weeks.

Now Rhino 7 crashes when I want to open the option dialog to adjust the settings to the new GPU. Is there something like a ‘safe mode’ to open Rhino7? Or any other way to open the options dialog without crashing?
Thanks
Cyana

Please run the SystemInfo command in Rhino.
Copy and paste the results.
Hopefully something obvious will show up.

Thanks

Please start Rhino in Safemode.
Use the Windows search tool to look for ‘Rhino 7 in Safe mode’

This is a troubleshooting tool.

In Rhino Options > Plug-ins, disable both SimLab Composer and ProRender.
Close and restart Rhino normally (not Safe mode) and see if the crash is gone.

If it is, the problem is one of the plug-ins.
Enable one and restart Rhino to see if the problem comes back.
If Rhino crashes, you found the culprit.
If no crash, try enabling the other one.

Any luck?

Hi John,

it’s the ProRender plugin.
Thanks a lot for your help!

Cyana

@Joshua_Kennedy perhaps you can find out if the ProRender plug-in maybe needs an SDK update for RX 6700 XT?

I’m in the process of making a new version of ProRender with an updated SDK. That may resolve this. I’m guessing since it’s a new GPU that you have the latest drivers installed?

Hi Joshua,

yes, latest drivers (October 2021) are installed.
