@terry.rayton do you get anything useful when you click “Learn more” in your second screenshot?
I added code to our installer to digitally sign rhiexec.msi before embedding it into our installer? I’m wondering if the message “… \becuase we can’t confirm who published it and it’s not an app we’re familiar with” is really “…who published it OR it’s not an app…”. It might make sense that they’re not familiar with it, but I think it’s signed.
I’m curious if you get different behavior installing the latest Rhino WIP from Rhino - Download - Rhino for Mac WIP - we removed several old Visual Studio redistributables, which may have gotten rid of the vcredist.msi warning.
Having recently had to reinstall my software I had a clean install of Windows 11 available and was able to turn Smart App Control on. I can confirm that it blocked the latest WIP installer.
I disconnected from the network, which should force Smart App Control to rely on the app signing rather than the mysterious cloud database but it still blocked the installer (notwithstanding Windows File Explorer saying the signature is good!).
I turned off Smart App Control and the WIP installed fine.
I’ve logged this on Microsoft’s Feedback site, with diagnostics. But I suspect (hope) you have a more immediate route into some Microsoft support…
Since yesterday, Smart App Control Blocking Rhino 8 Plugins and Uninstallation on Windows 11
Hi everyone,
I’m running Windows 11, and since yesterday, I’ve been facing a frustrating issue with Smart App Control. I do not think it is a Rhino-specific problem; it Looks like this Windows component is broken. Since yesterday, It’s overly restrictive and is blocking me from running more than one application:
Running my favorite game, Star Citizen; and uninstalling it.
C:\Windows\Temp\...\ba\BundleUI.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0xc0e90002.
I’ve Tried with no success:
Attempting to uninstall Rhino in Windows Safe Mode.
Running the original Rhino installer (rhino_en-us_8.13.24317.13001.exe) to attempt a repair or removal
Cleaning temporary files and reattempting the uninstall.
Scann for virus.
Roll back to an older Windows state. (I was not able)
Unfortunately, none of these steps have resolved the issue, and Smart App Control still blocks these actions. I suspect the system is treating some Rhino plugins and other files as untrusted, but I’m unsure how to proceed.
The only solution is to disable this broken Smart App Control Windows component. But if is it working and preventing me from other issues?
Has anyone else encountered this issue with Rhino 8, its plugins, or Smart App Control? If so, how did you resolve it? Any advice or steps to try would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks!
When this feature was introduced i thought there would be more cases of install issues, fortunately hardly anyone enables it. If i recall you have to reinstall windows to remove it once enabled.
