Rhino 6 and 7 don't want to look for updates anymore

Hi…,

my internet is working, but Rhino 6 and 7 don’t want to look for updates anymore. Looking for updates switch is gray.

Rhino 6 SR30 2020-10-14 (Rhino 6, 6.30.20288.16411)
Rhino 7 SR0 2020-11-9 (Rhino 7, 7.0.20314.03001)

What to check?

Thanks

Michael

McNeel update is a Windows service - maybe try restarting it?

Hi Mitch,

it was runing, and restarting it(, and restarting the PC) didn’t help. Hm?

Thanks

Michael

OK, it was worth a shot anyway. Aside from that I don’t know what to check - @brian?

I’ve seen this intermittently on several computers, particularly ones not running in English. I’ve not been able to reproduce the problem myself - except this:

There’s a setting in the installer that disables the check-for-updates system. You get here by clicking the gear icon on the first page:

If the user clears the highlighted checkbox, then they get the symptom you describe. The setting is a machine-wide setting, which is why the checkbox is grayed out in Rhino.

See if uninstalling and then reinstalling with the checkbox checked fixes the problem.

Hi Brian,

yes, a deinstall/reinstall of Rhino 7 (German, English) fixed this for both, Rhino 6 and 7.

Thanks
