I’ve been running into this issue for a couple of weeks, but yesterday it got particularly bad when my computer froze up 4 times while running Rhino 7 (not doing renderings or anything, just moving things around or drawing) and I had to do a hard restart every time, losing work in the process. I updated all my graphics drivers, the computer is new and up to date, yet the problem persists. I was having this issue with Rhino 6 so I upgraded to Rhino 7, but the same issue is occurring on both versions. I’m on Windows 10, Intel i5 10th Gen Processor.
Any suggestions are welcome. I know of at least one other person having this issue and they are on Mac with Rhino 6. Thanks!
Hello - thanks - I understand from your earlier comments that the entire machine freezes up - is that always the case when it goes wrong? Do you ever get the Rhino crash report interface and send in the report? Is the machine completely unresponsive or can you get at Task Manager, for instance?
What is the machine, a laptop? Can you provide some details about that?
I used to get the crash report dialog box but in the past month the whole machine freezes up and I have to do a hard reboot, I cannot get anything to open or any movement on the screen. The machine is a laptop, a Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5, 16GB RAM
Yeah, it should not freeze up the whole machine… The developer says this is likely a hardware or configuration problem, or there could be any amount of bloatware installed on the machine.
Hm okay, is there anything specific I can try? I spoke with a couple of my classmates and they are having the same issue, so I’m thinking it can’t just be my machine that’s the problem
??? Wait… So, are they also getting the entire machine locking up as well, just moving things around in Rhino? I’d like to have more details - does this happen with any file, even a new one, for you or your class mates, or some specific file or files? Is Grasshopper involved?
I’m asking for more info from them, but for my classmate who is on a Mac the whole computer also just freezes up every 3-4 commands, for them the issue has also only come up in the past few weeks. Neither of us are using Grasshopper in these files, and the file sizes are not particularly large.
Hello - thanks - I do not want to mix up the current issue with others but it would be helpful if your classmate(s) could start a new thread with an exact description of the symptoms, SystemInfo and if applicable, an example Rhino file. It seems unlikely, but certainly not impossible, I suppose, that you’re all running into the same problem, but in any case we’d like to sort it out.
In testing a case today, I have seen that Make2D for example can cause the CPU to go to 100% if there is a problem - and that looks like the computer is locked up, because no CPU resources are available to do anything else on the computer.
Had the same problem, for me it would happen every time I would run 2 rhino windows at once. Probably that a hardware problem I have a rogstrix 2080ti with a ryzen 9 3900x and 64gigs of ram.
It seems to have fixed the problem by itself after a rhino update or a windows update. No idea tho
