Rhino 7 freezing computer

Hi,

About once a week Rhino 7 completely freezes my computer and requires a hard reboot.

This just began happening a few weeks ago. I haven’t changed anything with my computer.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
David Ezzy

Hi David - is that triggered by anything consistent? A particular command, or file open, or ?

-Pascal

Hi Pascal,

I don’t think so. I am currently trying to simulate what I did before the last freeze and so far no freezes.

Note: after this last freeze that I posted, I just installed 7, 7.19.22165.13001.

Thank you,
David

Hi David -
Without a specific workflow, it’s hard to say what goes wrong but a system-wide freeze in this context is typically caused by a GPU issue.

We recommend a minimum of 4GB RAM in the GPU. The system you are running is not really up for the task. I’d at least check if there is an updated driver for that card. You’ll find links from the Rhino Notifications panel.

Hi Wim,

My workflow was:

  1. Open existing Rhino file (size = 16MB).
  2. Rotating in perspective view (ghosted).
  3. Turn a few layers on and off.
  4. Nothing else.

I updated my video driver and hopefully that will help, short of buying a new computer.

Thanks,
David

Hello David,

It sounds like a GPU issue . And it seems that you GPU drivers are almost 2 years old. Can you install updated drivers and let us know?

Will do, thanks.
