Restore Window Layout Crash

Hi @brian, thanks for setting up this thread
I had the same follonwing crash today, 2 times before and 2 times after updating to the latest release:
The WIP crashes when restoring to a custom saved UI

Few comments:

  • at 0:15 the mesh container won’t stick back to being a “tab” on the sidebar container, I guess that’s because that container is a “Side Panel”. Is only a guess because I always used the “Main” toolbar in previous versions as sidebar, so it had the functionality of being connected to a “parent” tab on the “Standart” toolbar, it’s a useful behavior.

If a detached container won’t stick back it’s fine, it’s not shown in the video, but if you get out of the “Mesh” tab, and come back, the detached tab will reappear again.

  • I have 2 floating containers because I still fear the WIP crashing all the time while opening new floating containers from buttons, so I just leave the ones I’m using he most there.

  • I did NOT have any crash from opening containers from “right clicking” some toolbar area > show toolbars… In this option they always appear tabbed on to the toolbar I click on, so maybe that’s why (?).

I reproduced this behavior 2 times before and after the latest release:
Change someting in a toolbar, restore to a custom named container collection, Rhino crashes during the process or right after a few seconds, with no crash report.

I’m using a external display connected to the laptop by a USB-C thunderbolt 4, as I detailed in this thread:

@diegodx can you send me your Window Layout? thanks

To do this, run _WindowLayout and export:

yeah, no problem!
I got a couple of macros on some buttons, and one button where I edited the icon, the rest is default

thanks @diegodx I managed to make Rhino crash twice with a crash dialog and many times without, but so far nothing easily repeatable (and it crashed at different points)

The Main toolbar is the toolbar that automatically switches tools depending on the tabs you select is a special case toolbar. If you drag out toolbars, you basically make a copy of that toolbar in a new container. You’ll notice that once you switch back and forth between standard and mesh tab, that this recovers the main toolbar. For example the mesh boolean tools you dragged out, will reappear.

Okay, seems I got a pattern, after restoring your layout 6 times in a row I got a repeatable crash
