R6 SR8 bug, Possible to come back to SR7?

It seems that I have a bug in SR8 : View in windows black, no more image and wrong selection between front, left, …
Is it possible to come back to the last SR7 to test if the problem is due to that release or not ?
How to do that ?

Hello - can you please run the SystemInfo command in Rhino and paste the results here?

thanks,

As a first step, please try updating your display drivers.

Windows tell me that I use the best pilote for ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series …
So how can I refresh it ?
Thanks

All other programs run well on the PC … just Rhino is running, but not usable !!!

I have made a lot of tests … it seems that : the perspective view run properly. The problem is only with all other view … very long time to respond, and finishing by a black windows. I have look also for display driver, not successfully.
How to come back to SR7 ???

If you are on automatic updates for Service Releases, the previous one will still be available on your harddisk in a sub-folder in this location:

C:\ProgramData\McNeel\McNeelUpdate\DownloadCache

Let me know if you find it there.

Yes I have 5 sub folder. 3 with big numbers, Files and logs.
I have fund this file : rhino_fr-fr_6.7.18210.11281.exe
I run it ?

You need to uninstall Rhino first. Then run the 6.7 installer. This is a requirement for going “backward” in versions.

Ok but i will lose all my settings ???
How I uninstall Rhino 6 ? (for minimum lose!)

You won’t lose your settings - I do it all the time.
Note that it never hurts to backup your settings!

Just go to the Windows Control Panel > Uninstall a program.

Fine, I come back to SR7 and every thing run perfectly …
So you have a real bug in SR8 !!!
I have stop the automatic releases :frowning:
Many thanks for your help … may be let me know if you solve this problem.

Hi Danielle - I would not go by what Windows reports - go to the AMD website and look for the latest driver there for your card.
Also, @danielle.reynouard - did the problem occur with any file or with no file at all (just open Rhino)?
If it was some files, can you send us one of those via tech@mcneel.com?
thanks,

-Pascal

The problem occur with any file …

In fact I have lose all the standard view !!
How can I find them ??? where can I find an .ini file with only this. I don’t want to loose my other settings.
Thanks

Hello - what happens if you run the 4View command? (if I understand what you’re asking)

-Pascal

You mean, now with the SR7, or with the bug on SR8 ?
Now (retored SR7) it is running, but I have only the “filaire” view. I try to find the ombré but it is not evident to retreave the standard configuration.
Before (SR8), only the perspectiv view running, the other became black, or equal to perspective view, and the PC was very slow …

Hi Danielle - I think you’re looking for default “display modes”. My guess is an update to the video driver is still the key thing here. 2015 drivers are getting pretty old. Hm - however, looking around it looks like this card and drivers are or were in a bit of a mess- from what I see so far the last good driver for Windows 10 is from 2015.

Pascal

@pascal If SR7 works, then he shouldn’t need to update anything…

@danielle.reynouard
We need to figure out what’s in the files that are causing SR8 to fail. But I’m still having a hard time understanding what the problem is here…it isn’t being expressed clearly enough (IMO) for me to understand what’s going on…

Please provide screenshots and 3dm files that demonstrate what it is you’re seeing and experiencing.

I’m also not sure if you’re seeing this with everything or with just some files on your system…

If you:

  1. Start Rhino
  2. Draw a box
  3. Does everything display correctly? All views.
  4. Put Perspective view into Shaded mode…does it display correctly?
  5. Put Perspective view into Rendered mode…does it display correctly?
  6. Put Perspective view into Ghosted mode…does it display correctly?

…if all of that works, and you’re only having issues with specific files, then it means something in those files has revealed something we broke in SR8…and we need to isolate what those are.

Please do not update your drivers or system at this point…If SR7 works for you, then SR8 should have also.
