Graphics problem?

Possibly since either windows 10 or rhino 6 update have problem with screen not showing or responding to mouse or keyboard commands even though they appear correctly in command list.

Have check updates/reinstalled drivers/restarted and now baffled…

Please run the SystemInfo command in Rhino and return the results in a reply.

Thanks

I also am running Rhino 5 with no problems…

The OpenGL requirement for V6 are much higher than previous Rhinos.
It may be that your HD3000 from 2011 needs to be replaced if you want to run V6.

Did turning off the Hardware setting work?

Thanks John - not sure what you mean by “turning off the hardware setting” though…

Rhino Options > Advanced
Search for “UseHardwareDriver”
Clear the check so it reads False.

Sorry, I confused you with another user with the same old graphics card.

I think that when the driver shows “Microsoft”, “shader not supported”, “OpenGL version 1.1.0” that usually means the driver in use is the Microsoft software openGL driver. Even on a graphics display of that vintage I would expect openGL support of 2.x or 3.x from a proper driver. @jeff ?

The minimum support level for V6 I think is 4.1
That’s a big jump up from V5

Changing to false has not worked…the thing is that Rhino 6 has been working fine on this machine up to 10 days ago…

@simondormon

So what happened between 10 days ago and now? Have you updated to a more recent SR?

We are starting to hear about certain types of configs that have somehow broken with SR27 (6.27)… And that going back to SR26 is currently the only workaround… But I’d like clarification on what you mean by “working fine”??

Did Rendered display mode(s) work fine? Shadows? Textures? etc…
Did Technical display modes work fine?
etc.
etc.

Thanks,
-Jeff

Yes working completely normally in all display modes

@simondormon

Here is a link to SR26… You will first need to uninstall 6.27 (assuming that’s what you have)… then install SR26…

http://files.na.mcneel.com/dujour/exe/20200526/rhino_en-us_6.26.20147.06511.exe

Also, please don’t forget to reset the option that John had you change back to TRUE.

Let me know if SR26 then works… and if so, please grab another SystemInfo result and post it.

Ok…very strange… Especially since the system info looks exactly the same. So we’ve obviously busted something in 6.27 that breaks machines using lower OpenGL versions. We’re still in the process of trying to figure that out…but we thought this was only impacting the virtual machines and Remote Desktop configs…apparently not.

I guess I’ll dig around for an older Intel laptop to see if I can see the same problem.

Thanks for the feedback…and until you hear back from us/me, please do not update to any other SR.

-Jeff

Yes I have a more modern desktop at work that did not have a problem - although I will double check the version tomorrow. Thanks again for your help!

@simondormon

I’ve created a bug report for this specific instance (but I believe it relates to others we’ve seen)… You can keep track of it here:

https://mcneel.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issue/RH-59448

Or just wait until you see a message posted by Brian that the above bug has been fixed in the “current” WIP.

Thanks again,

Thanks Simon

Thanks @simondormon,

Ya, your office computer uses the latest OpenGL version, so I wouldn’t expect to see the problem there.

That being said, I believe I’ve already found and fixed the problem. A fix went into the 6.27 branch very early on, which broke things… Unfortunately, the fix to that breakage somehow only made it into the 7.x branch… My fault, as I obviously thought this was a 7.x only problem at the time I was fixing it.

Anyways, long story short… the fix is now in the 6.x branch, and should be in the next week’s public release.

Thanks again for the feedback and patience on this one.
