Potential Rhino 9 WIP Feature: Flair

Ouch, sorry to hear it is such a big job, Apple wasn’t kind to pull the plug on OpenGL. Good luck on fixing that!

Thanks for taking the time to try to give a workaround Kyle,
but lets keep this about Flair and NPR display modes

I haven’t had a chance to try this feature, but I love the idea. I customize my display settings significantly for a number of reasons, and any more options are greatly welcomed.

I also teach Rhino, and I could see this as being a great thing for students – both to grab their interest and also to add practicality in terms of adding character to drawings for presentations and such without having to jump between software and re-produce images at every design iteration/every new view.

I’ll take a G2 patch over Flair, but it would be nicer to have both.

Awesome!

So…can the last WIP build that had Flair remain non-expirable? :smirk:

Just kidding!

…but not really kidding, LoL!

I guess I’ll use the one I installed on my laptop until it runs out :broken_heart:

Thanks for all the efforts!

can it be made as a separate plugin so its not bound to V8 cycle?

Even as a beta plugin accessible from pack manager, even if it is not stable or not really customisable, it is very useful for presentation purposes…
We are like babies, you remove us a nice toy and we are crying

Thanks a lot, but I clearly understand that it need to stay a beta for a long time to prioritize V8

Reeeaaaallly wanted to play around with Flair and then learned it was nixed. Man it looked interesting. Hope you can add it!

Looking forward to trying this, seems like an excellent option when time is too precious.

RH-71676 is fixed in the latest WIP

All -
As you might have noticed, Flair is back in this week’s public WIP and can be used as-is. When Rhino 8 is released, Flair will move to the Rhino 9 WIP and will continue to be developed there.

LETS GO! :face_holding_back_tears:

Great news!

Please keep the door open for it to stay in R8 as it is when R8 is released, and then keep on developing it in V9. I think that will be more beneficial for the users.

Pencil sketch is my favorite by far for now.

Much thanks to @jeff for the effort to get this back, on top of his HUGE job working on metal for mac.

The “Da Vinci” style seems to be the one I think everyone is missing out on (understandably since nothing has been documented yet)… The basic premise behind the style is that it uses the background canvas as its primary color source…but that’s it, nothing else. Which means all details will be rendered using the given color at a given pixel within the canvas…and those results will accumulate over repeated “hits” on that pixel. By choosing a “parchment” style background, you can (and will) get results that look very similar to Leonardo da Vinci’s drawings… hence, the style name.

Here’s an example:

There’s also an option to turn off the portions of the background that do not contain any accumulated results (i.e. “Background contents”)…which yields the following:

Also note that those images use another parchment style image for their “paper texture”… Here are the image files I used…
