I have a file where dimensions for different things are set up on separate layouts.
IE:
Wall dimensions are on one layer and set to “layout on” in only one detail view/layout.
Dimensions for piping are similar on another layer that is set to “layout off” on all other layouts except the piping diagram layout.
I recently received the HVAC layout from the contractor so I need to make a new layout with those dims. As I start drawing them they show on all layouts and I have to go back through all the other layouts and turn them off for each detail view.
I would like to have them automatically off on all other detail views except the one I am drawing them in.
I tried the “New detail” in layer manager set to off but they still show in the older layouts/detail views.
Is there a way to set them as hidden from all previous layouts/detail views except the new layout/detail view?
Hi @moon47usaco, Is there a way to set them as hidden from all previous layouts/detail views except the new layout/detail view?
Maybe the easiest way to do this is to create the dimension on the layout.
If you use osnaps, then the dimtext will reflect model distances.
Another option you have is to make a layer, let’s call it Dimlayout-2.
You can turn it off in the Details in the current Layout or All layouts.
This option on the menu that you will see when you right-click of the Detail On button (light bulb) in the Layer panel when the details is active.
Now moving forward in the model you can also set New Detail On to “Off”.
Now when you make a new detail, this layer will always be Off in a new detail on any layout , but can always be turned on if required.
Here are my favorite posts that are packed with details about how to use layout and layer in Rhino 8:
