Named View command not working

Hi there,

I was hoping someone may be able to shed some light on an issue I’m currently experiencing.

I am working on a 3D model and am trying to create a named view for a specific view I am trying to capture, however when I go to Set View and press on Named Views…, nothing happens. The command shows up on the command line but the Named View pop-up box doesnt appear. I’ve even typed the command “_NamedView” and that doesnt make a difference. I’ve seen other threads where the OP states their Rhino freezes, but mine doesnt even do that. I’m still able to use the program fine after typing in the command, it just doesnt react to the command at all, if that makes sense.

I was just wondering if anyone knew what could be causing this, and possibly how to fix it? Or even if theres any other way to save a specific view that I’m not aware of in Rhino. For context, I want to save the specific view so I can make a few Make2Ds for some diagrams/drawings.

Any help will be appreciated

Namedviews are working fine here (windows Rhino V7 SR29)

guessing:
the _namedView Panel is showing ?
are you running the latest Update ?
post your _systemInfo so the mc neel team gets more infos.
are you using any special plug-ins ?
does above issue also happens on a new file with a simple box after restart ?

Is your viewport locked by any chance? Create a new view and try it maybe?

If you can provide a file that would offer more insight as well. You can create a fresh file, just make a simple block and try it.

Hi thanks for your response
The namedview panel is not showing, so when I click on it under the Set View ribbon, or when I type the command _namedview no panels pop up.
I had to uninstall and reinstall Rhino about a week ago due to a seperate issue I was facing, so I should be running the latest update but not entirely sure how to check.

I’m not currently running any special plug ins, last week I did have to disable some plugins due to them crashing my Rhino, however I have checked under properties and all the disabled plug ins don’t seem to have anything to do with Named Views.

And yes, it does happen with a new file after a simple box. I even opened old files where I used Named Views and the issue is still persisting.

I hope this clears things up a little better. Thanks for your reply!

Thank you for your response

My viewport is currently not locked, and when I make a new file, or even open an old one where I did use Named Views, the issue still persists.

I have attached a simple box file if that helps!

Right away I notice the perspective view is locked:

But maybe you were just doing that to test it out?

I’m going to have a quick look either way.

Oh yes sorry I was doing that to test it out after you suggested it, completely forgot to unlock it before attaching it

There’s a few places where you can lock views. I (almost) never do this because it kind of gets you stuck into a locked view. I made a quick video that I’ve linked below. I usually associate CPlanes with my named views (not always necessary but I find it to be a good habit for a few reasons).

You mentioned that your dialog will not come up using the default version of the command? It’s not hiding in your panels?

Try to see if you can access the dialog from here:

This will help you determine if it is in fact locking views on you. And to be honest, managing named views without this dialog is much harder.

Note that I made the video between posts so it might be redundant now (this could be some other issue) but might help so I’ll link it anyways.

there is a panel Menu (the top row at the screen File, Edit, View …Panels, Help)
Is namedCplane checked there ?

it sounds a bit like the toolbar lost it s position out of the monitor-Dimension…
Not 100% sure if
_toolbarReset
(restart Rhino afterwards)
also influences Panels / Panel-Screen-Position.
But if you do not have custom toolbar settings - give it a try.
