Matrix 9 Menu Bar Unresponsive

Hi,

I have been using Matrix 9 for a few years, but today the menu bar and the menus down the side (layers, history, snaps etc) are unresponsive, the Rhino toolbar works though, so I can open a file if I ctrl+0, but am restricted in what I do…cant export for printing for instance.
Do you think it my be the Matrix dongle, or perhaps an issue with updates/ Windows etc?

Thank you in advance!

I am having the same problem. Help

I have the same problem today.

  1. My friend tried updated window 11 and it fixed.
  2. My company use window 10. My IT team removed the current personal profile and recreate the new one…it can fix the problem. but in some machine still not working…

So Strange. Every computer I have matrix 9 installed has the same issue. It opens and the command bar works like rhino 5 but all the matrix toolbar menu everything there is frozen and does not respond

My team and I are also experiencing the issue. We have Windows 10 as well, but the computer that we are using are not able to upgrade to Windows 11 due to hardware limitations set by Microsoft.

Has anyone had any luck with solutions aside from the following:

  1. Upgrading to Windows 11
  2. Running Matrix with your internet off

So it seems that Gemvision is doing something with their backend so when you start up some of their programs are trying to contact their servers and causing an issue. Is it on purpose? Probably.

Anyway, to fix it I blocked a few programs with the Windows firewall and it seems to be working. I did it with 3 programs in the main Matrix folder (probably at C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix90). You want to block Matrix90.exe, MatrixStartup.exe, and MatrixUpdater.exe.

Here are the steps to make a firewall rule:

To block a program from accessing the internet using Windows Firewall, you can create an outbound rule:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Select Network & internet
  3. Click Advanced network settings
  4. Select Windows Firewall
  5. Select Advanced settings
  6. Select Outbound Rules
  7. Select New Rule
  8. Select Program
  9. Browse to the program’s path
  10. Select Block the connection
  11. Select all three choices
  12. Enter the program’s name and description (optional)
  13. Click Finish

It’s working for me so far.

Edit: Just FYI, the startup acted a little weird with those programs blocked but it did end up working. Just give it a minute and it should come up as usual.

Appreciate the in depth solution. Is this supposed to serve as a long term solution or is there hope that this will get resolved eventually?

Just for perspective, Rhino 5 was released in September of 2012, a month before Microsoft released Windows 8. Running Rhino 5 and Matrix 9 on Windows 7/8 might be the best bet long term.

Thank you!

I started up the computer/Matrix with no internet connection and it worked (still working after internet restored)

I would block the app with the firewall as a permanent solution.

Update here, Staring the computer with the internet OFF loads Matrix 9 and all tools function. Then I turned on and or plugged in the internet and there are no problems.
I am happy with this solution

Amazing. Thank you, I have windows 10 at home. I have a powerful computer but it doesn’t have the TPM which says you can’t update to windows 11
Hopefully the commands will be similar

Thank you for the video. It worked to get matrix back up, but I realized after opening I can’t access any project files because they’re all stored on a local server. Can I somehow block comms with internet without interrupting server access?

I had the same issue with Matrix 8
I had to turn off the WiFi
Turn on Matrix 8
Matrix 8 loaded
Then go back and turn on the internet on…

Thanks for posting. I had the same issue that started yesterday. Do you know if anyone has located the files that caused this issue?

It appears that its the splash screen advertisement url that is causing the issue.
