Major VISUALARQ 2D workflow issue : Rhino crash at refresh (see video)

Dear Community,

I am dealing with a rather large project. (30 residences)

When I try to output 2D from linked models (worksessions), It works on the first model then crashes when update computes newly added models (same worksession).

See attached video!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated, including a proper way (workflow) to extract 2D from VisualArq.

Kind regards,

Raymond

Hi @raymond.gaetan,

Please, could you send me the files involved in this problem? I will try to reproduce the crash to find a solution.

Thank you Alfonso,

I am sending you an email with a drop box link.

Since my project is relatively big, I am currently considering two distinct workflow as follow:

WORKFLOW 1: Output from live 3D model

  1. I load the model 010_DWG_230821_MASTER_PLAN_2D OUTPUT.3dm. It includes all my section lines, levels and layouts.
  2. I then open all of the “geometry models” and load them in “Worksessions”
  3. I then do all annotations, dimensioning and final prints from the layout file.

**Problem: Annotations and dimensioning snap to objects “beyond” the section planes making the entire process SLOW and INPRECISE.

…I thought that maybe, if I do VA PLAN or SECTION views could resolve the issue… hence the workflow 2 below.

WORKFLOW 2: Output from VA PLAN or SECTION views

  1. I load the model 010_DWG_230821_MASTER_PLAN_2D OUTPUT.3dm. It includes all my section lines, levels and layouts.
  2. I then open all of the “geometry models” and load them in “Worksessions”
  3. I then go on to create individual VA PLAN and SECTION views and lay them neatly in my 3D workspace but beside my main 3D model
  4. As soon as I update or try to add to the “Worksessions”, it crashes!!!
  5. … I did not even get to annotations and dimensioning so I do not know if it solves my WORKFLOW 1 problem.

**Problem: As soon as I update or try to add to the “Worksessions”, it crashes!!!

Many thanks in advance for your help!

Kind regards,

Raymond

Hi @raymond.gaetan,

Thanks for your files, I have been testing it and I could reproduce the crash, so I am reporting it to find a solution.

I think your first workflow is better because that way you are not creating extra 2D geometry as you are directly producing your documentation from the 3D model. My suggestion is creating the dimensions in a separate layer in the 3D model (not in the layout); this way you will have them available in every layout and they will not slowdown your workflow.

Thank you for your follow up Alfonso,

Keep me posted on the issue relative to the crash.

Regarding the dimensions in the 3D file and managed as layers…

How is your workflow?

While this seems relatively easy with plans, it is barely impossible with sections (or am I missing a trick?)

I love the software but a smooth workflow from 3D to 2D is essential…

Thank you in advance for a short reply.

Hi @raymond.gaetan,

It is the same, you can create a layer for the plan dimensions and another one for the section dimensions. For example, here I created a layer called “DIMENSIONS” with two sublayer, one called “Ground floor” where I am creating the dimensions for the ground floor and another one called “Section S1” where I am creating the dimensions for that section so that I can choose which dimensions to display in each view.

Then, you can get your 2D documentation using this workflow: https://youtu.be/1qdNB5v_fwE

Thank you for your email Alfonso,

The problem is that a section is not a “real geometry” and that I cannot snap to it for dimensioning…

Moreover, if I try dimensioning while in section mode, it is SUPER slow…

Any thoughts on this? Am I doing it wrong?

Thank you in advance for a short reply.

Kind regards,

Raymond

Hi @raymond.gaetan,

I see snap to objects is not working in section if you are in perspective view (I’ll add this request to our list), but you can do it by aligning the view to section as shown in the following image. If you use the “Project object snaps” option you will make sure that you are creating the geometry in the active construction plane.

What do you mean by “section mode”? Is it this option I showed in the previous image? If that is the case, please, could you send me your file? I’ll test it to try figuring out why it is so slow.

Thanks Alfonso,

“Project object snaps” worked!

Hi @raymond.gaetan,

We have already solved the crash you had working with worksessions. It is solved in the upcoming version, VisualARQ 2.13.2. I send it to you now, so that you can keep working:

http://visualarq.s3.amazonaws.com/download/visualarq-2.13.2.17627-rhino7-setup-snapshot.msi

Thank you Alfonso,

I will test it today! This is very much appreciated!

Meanwhile, are you also looking into the poor quality PDF creation?

Hi @raymond.gaetan,

We are still working on this issue. We will let you know when it is ready.
