This new approach is by no means an improvement over the previous method in V7. Sorry to complain, but the stupidity of the upgrade keeps smacking me in the face. Here’s the amount of effort it takes to add a single command to the pop up menu.
Click on settings
Click on Toolbars
Scroll down list menus and click on Popup
Click Add
Click select Command (from list of existing command scripts)
Click ‘next’
Here you’ll find a choice of ‘default’ or ‘defaultmac’.
Open the popup menu and drag it a bit to make sure it stays on the screen
Cmd + LMB drag the toolbar button that has the command you want from an existing toolbar into the popup
Done…
Doesn’t work for you?
Or
Open the popup menu and drag it a bit to make sure it stays on the screen
Right click in a space somewhere in the toolbar and choose “New button”
Either add the command and image you want via the dialog, or Click “Blank Button” and finish
If you used the blank button option, Shift+Right click on the new blank button and choose “Edit”, fill in the command (or a custom script, etc.) and add an image or text…
It would be better if one could delete several items in one actions as opposed to one by one.
As for adding tools - this is what I typically work with. It seems long but my physical memory makes selecting what’s wanted quick and easy. Plus, at least in V7, I can use the list of last used commands with the LMB.
Shift + LMB and drag them around inside the toolbar and drop them where you want.
To delete a button, just Shift + LMB drag it out of the toolbar into the Rhino window and release. You will get a “Do you want to delete…” message to confirm deletion.
I’ve noticed after dragging a tool into the pop up it’s no longer in the default collection. I’ve tried holding different key combos to drag a copy but I’m not getting it right. I notice the offset curve command exists in both menus so I thought perhaps restarting would fix it. No. I’m sorry to be asking, I’m embarrassed and put off with how difficult it is to set up my interface. I’ve not experienced anything more tedious and unintuitive with any app I’be used in the last 30 years.
Normally Shift + LMB and drag moves a button. Cmd (Ctrl in windows Rhino) + LMB makes a copy wherever you drag the button. When you hover over a button and hit Shift or Cmd, you should see tooltips lighting up to that effect.
The RMB actions are Shift + click to edit (to open the button editor) and Cmd + drag to “link” (I don’t recommend this). The tooltips also show this.
It’s just not what you’re used to. This is how Rhino for Windows has worked since 1.0. It’s fast, easy and works - just drag and drop - at least it did up to V7. There are still a number of bugs in V8 (also on the Windows side) that have yet to be resolved.
It’s not so easy really. For instance, I want to add duplicate face border but I can’t find the button wherever I’ve looked. If I enter the command - there’s no hint as to where the button actually resides. In V7 there was a searchable interface for all the commands - I don’t think there’s anything like it now.
