Layout visibility bug

Hello,
There seems to be a bug or a weird implementation of the layout visibility controls in the Layer container that is making editing in layouts really difficult. Turning off the model visibility light bulb in the layer container doesn’t always turn off the visibility of a layer in a layout.

When I update a block some layers that I don’t want on in my layouts come in turned back on from the parent model. My preference is to just turn off the layer’s model visibility so that I don’t have to turn them off individually in each layout. However, turning off the model visibility doesn’t always result in turning off the layout visibility. when I go to a layout the model visibility light bulb in the Layer Container is set to off but the layout visibility light bulb is still turned on and the objects on that layer are still visible. Cycling the model visibility lightbulb doesn’t affect the layout visibility at all.

Now if I turn off the model visibility, and then cycle the layout visibility it will cycle off and then obey the model visibility by not turning back on. At this point the layout visibility will start to obey the model visibility and work going forwards.

Is this a bug or is there some reason for this “feature”

Thanks

Hi NavArch,

What version of Rhino are you using?

Can you run the SystemInfo command in Rhino and post the result.

A small example file would be helpful as well. Thanks

I’m running the Latest Service release Candidate
Version 8 SR19
(8.19.25120.1001, 2025-04-30)

Hi NavArch -
As Japhy wrote, a small example would be good to have.
I’m having a hard time picturing what’s happening when I try to follow your description.

I’ll see if I can find the time to pair down the models and upload them.

In the mean time I’ll take a crack at trying to explain it another way. The visibility state of certain layers in my layout details are not obeying the model visibility state of the layer.
Here is a snip from the layer tree with the model visibility set to ‘off’ and the detail visibility set to ‘on’
image
In this case even though the model visibility is set to ‘off’ the geometry on the Mold Lines layer is still visible in the detail.

If I cycle the detail visibility ‘off’ then the objects will disappear as they should. At this point the visibility controls revert to normal operation and I can’t turn the detail visibility back on unless the model visibility is first switched on.

Hi NavArch -

Please let us know if you have a reproducible way to put layers in the state as in that picture.
