Hey everyone. Im currently working an a very large scale project including many layouts. Ive just lost a few hours figuring out what was wrong. So what Ive experienced is, some of the layouts just beeing blank white. and no there is no issue with scale oder layout position. I just figured out that, if I create a new layout, its somehow linked to the currently active layer when creating it. And If i later on disable that layer the whole layout goes blank. Please let me know If that is on purpose, if so how can I see the linked layers and what will happen when i duplicate these exact layers or shift them around. Im quite concerned right now and anxoius to change anything in my layer structure. Please help if you can and provide more information about the topic/issue i described.
Thank you very much
All the Best
A layout (page) shouldn’t be associated to a layer, but a detail view is and will indeed turn off if it’s layer is turned off. A detail viewport can be selected and its layer changed like any other Rhino object.
Hi Alex,
Are you using Windows or Mac? Rhino 7 or 8?
There are a few reasons for an all white layout.
One would be there there are no “details” view so you can not see your model on the page.
The other would be there is a details view but all the layer are off globally.
It would help if you could review one of the these tutorials on Rhino layouts.
And then post a model so we can investigate it here. (you may also email it to tech@mcneel.com Attn Mary)
- Include a “step by step” and you Rhino SystemInfo: n Rhino type SystemInfo command.
- Copy and paste the text results into your reply.*

Is there a menu or list somewhere, where I can see the detail views and which layer they are on?
Double click in the Detail. It will become active.
You will see the Layers that are on Globally and in the Detail on the Layers panel.
Again, take a look at a few of the Layout videos.
This is a more advanced concept and brings a number of elements of the UI together.
If you still have issues, I will need a file.
Thanks,
