Latest Rhino update stuck on startup

Hi there,

I’ve been using Rhino 8 for Mac on a new Mac Studio without any issues for the past few days. I’ve just installed the latest update, and since then the software will not start. It stays stuck on the ‘Getting license from license manager’ with the revolving wheel. I’ve tried deleting the license file from the shared folder, but that hasn’t changed anything either.

Any suggestions?

The latest update for Mac or for Rhino?

Did you check all these folders? Do they all exist?

Rhino 8 Mac license locations

  • “/Users//Library/Application Support/McNeel/Rhinoceros/8.0/License Manager/Licenses”
  • “/Users//Library/Application Support/McNeel/Rhinoceros/8.0/ra_cache.txt”
  • “/Users/Shared/McNeel/Rhinoceros/8.0/License Manager/Licenses”

Delete the contents of the folders and the ra_cache.txt if they exist. Thanks

Does this folder exist? If not then its a known permissions issue that was resolved (i thought in 8.5+, maybe its 8.6)

/Users/Shared/McNeel/Rhinoceros/8.0/License Manager/Licenses

Yes, that folder exists, and I deleted the .lic file from that earlier when I first started having trouble with it to see if that solved the issue. Didn’t change anything

Thanks, sending you 8.6 just in case in a private message.

Hello, I am also stuck on Rhino 8.5 initializing on a mac. I deleted the .lic file with no luck in starting the program…

can you check if you have read & write priveleges on the license folders?

  • “/Users//Library/Application Support/McNeel/Rhinoceros/8.0/License Manager/Licenses”
  • “/Users//Library/Application Support/McNeel/Rhinoceros/8.0/ra_cache.txt”
  • “/Users/Shared/McNeel/Rhinoceros/8.0/License Manager/Licenses”

Same here, stuck on start up. This happened after installing latest MacOS and Enscape for Mac. Tried reinstalling Rhino. Also checked that the license folders exist and deleted the .lic file. Still not working.

Similar condition here resolved by

  1. uninstall
  2. manually delete all existing (including hidden ones) Rhino 8.0 folders in /Users
  3. reinstall

Uninstalling Enscape worked. Tried to reinstall Enscape and the problem came back. Uninstalled Enscape again and now it works.

Can confirm that Enscape seems to be the issue. Spent the morning doing a complete wipe of my Mac and reinstall of everything and Rhino worked, now it’s back to being stuck on the startup banner after installing the latest Enscape 4.0…
