Is it possible to disassociate USDZ with Rhino? Also iPadOS 26 Beta

I wanted to understand the relationship between default apps and filetypes in iOS and iPad OS.

I downloaded the iPadOS 26 Beta, really for one new feature; the ability to set a default app. I work with a lot of USDZ files, but because I have iRhino installed, it automatically opens them in iRhino, which is not a good experience. I want them to open with the native Quick Look app. Unfortunately, it seems like in iPadOS 26, you can’t set Quick Look as default because it’s not really a standalone app.

So, is it possible for iRhino to just not read USDZs automatically? Or have an option to turn off the filetype?

So far, iRhino seems to running fine in iPadOS 26, so I’ll continue to test.

Unfortunately iOS doesn’t have a universal way to set a default app for file types.

If you have another app on your iPad that handles USDZ maybe you can try this method:

If you’re looking for the default Quick Look viewer, you can long press the USDZ file on the Files app and select Quick Look. I’m not sure if doing it enough will register it as the default handler in the OS

Thank you for the reply. Usually what I do is press and hold then use Quick Look. But if I accidentally tap once it opens Rhino and closes what I was looking at.

So I guess what I was wondering is if in iRhino, you could somehow uncheck filetypes, to limit what it imports. As I said though, I don’t really understand how iOS chooses what app to open files in.

We need iRhino to be able to open USDZ files in order to process Room scan and object scan files. I don’t see a way around it unfortunately.
