Why is this and is it possible to tap into more of the available ‘in-house’ GPU power? Could it be related to specific driver update? PC graphics settings already adjusted for Rhino to go for ‘high performance using AMD’.
I want to help my friend get the most out of Rhino with their current system! This, of course, before defaulting into suggesting dedicated graphics. It feels as if the system still has plenty integrated graphics for basic raytracing.
Do you have any insight/suggestions? I thank you in advance for your attention/support
That looks like a very old driver version (2022?).
The long and short of it, is that iGPUs don’t have intrinsic power to unlock. They are meant for lightweight applications and office shuffling.
If the driver is this old, the GPU may even be Zen 3 iGPU. It’s only recently that either AMD (Strix) or Intel (Meteor Lake) really have anything that may be close reasonable in an iGPU to do raytrace.
Not only that, they have probably the entire CPU and iGPU saturating the cooling solution if it is a thin & light laptop. Even if that’s not the case, if there is only an iGPU in the first place, it’s probably a truely more economical piece of silicon with low TDP (~20 W).
